What if you were sitting near this man on a plane?

Would you be friendly to him?

Would you have a conversation with him?

Would you be suspicious of him?

Would you try to avoid him?

Would you be afraid of him?

Would you want to get off the plane?

Who is this man?

1. Well, the possible likeness of a Jewish fellow frm Jesus' time & location
at least. I saw a documentary where they they did that reconstruction.

It's not a likeness of Jesus per se but what a fellow of his time and place may have looked like.

Why even make a statement like that, other than to bolster your false sense of superiority?

6. Interesting
However, it should be noted that this is the face of the average peasant in Biblical (New Testament) times, not the face of Jesus, per se.

Still, to answer your question, other than the unruly hair, I don't see why anyone would have a problem sitting next to this guy on a plane. I might wonder why he, during this century, didn't have better bathing and grooming habits, but he doesn't look "scary" or anything.

Of course, my first husband is Palestinian and my current husband is a Russian Jew, so, well, LOL, I'm just slightly accustomed to true Semitic features. * wink *

12. I would likely find this person to be one that I might like to sit next to
His hair is less "unkempt" than many I see at airports. Perhaps he would not be wearing a tanktop and flip-flops, and exposing his hairy chest with a gold chain. At the very least, he probably would not have a shitty attitude and loud manner.

20. a swarthy Middle Eastern man
And what would happen today if a swarthy Middle Eastern man without wealth or political connections suddenly appeared in front of the White House proclaiming such a radical doctrine of mercy, forgiveness, charity, self-abnegation and love – love even for the "evildoers" who "want to destroy our way of life"? Would he be targeted by the lawless spy gangs that Bush has personally loosed upon the nation? Would he be condemned as a terrorist sympathizer and expelled from the country? Would he be seized and "rendered" to some secret CIA prison or Bush-friendly foreign torture chamber for "special interrogation"?

Or perhaps Woody Guthrie saw the truth years ago, as he sat in a cold boarding house in New York City, transfiguring an old folk song about an outlaw into a gospel for modern times: "If Jesus was to preach here like he preached in Galilee, they would lay Jesus Christ in his grave."

Chris Floyd wrote brilliantly about this - in a Christmas post last year.

28. Jesus playing "keep-away" with the Campbell's Soup kids?!
Nahhh.

As for the pic in the OP, I have no problem with the guy's color, features, hairdo, or whathave you -- but the *expression* on his face is really, really odd. That's what would put me off.

I would expect an itinerant philosopher/rabbi/guru/preacher to have a more open and friendly face, that's all. Somewhat like the Dalai Lama or Thich Nhat Hanh.

I'd be really interested in sitting next to such a person on a long flight, even if he wasn't Buddhist.

Hekate

38. Our icons don't show him like that, either.
In the Eastern Orthodox Church, we have rules on how Jesus is supposed to be depicted with specific measurements and all. His skin is always to be darker, and he's never to look white. He didn't look like that.

Good luck finding a manger scene for the kids to play with for Christmas that doesn't have them all white, though . . . :eyes:

Here's a group that makes and sells icons, and here's one that's more traditional:

that freepers rag on about "ragheads" when in fact Jesus and his disciples might have worn similar clothing.

By the way whilst researching my answer to the OP I found this fantastic website:

"Welcome to Godchecker - your Guide to the Gods

We have more Gods than you can shake a stick at. Godchecker's Mythology Encyclopedia currently features over 2,850 deities.

29. People are people. I like people. How they look is not important to me....
if they're friendly and want to talk.. I'll usually listen and/or talk to them.

Judging people by how a person looks IME is foolish. Some of the best folks I've known I never would have if I had "judged" them by how they looked or dressed or even behaved at first... sometimes you have to peel away the outer "mask" to find the jewel inside.

Besides... terrorists come in more colors then brown... like Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols and the Oklahoma City Bombing.

(OT btw: I found the wildest OC bombing conspiracy site while Googling OC. It looks like a RW freeper site with the sources they use.. like NewsMax and FreeRepublic Forums. They even try to link OC to 9-11 and shift it more to Clinton's fault.)
