Hmmm, telemarketers going after women now? |
|
I just got a call. They asked for Mrs. ^^^^^^^^^ (my surname0 and how they were calling from (institute that gives dying children whatever they want  )
Why ask for Mrs.? Playing into a stereotype, are they?
Nice of them to think I'm married, but that's not right either...

1. Not sure what you're trying to say |
|
Are you surprised that they would want to talk to a female in the home, or upset that they assumed you were a "Mrs"?

I used to get calls like this until I got on the do-not-call list. Well, there's only 2 gay men living in our house so I didn't quite know how to answer. I started answering "yeah this is Mrs. -----" in my deepest voice. That always threw them for a loss.

When they call and ask for the "woman of the house" or "Mrs. X" I am always very nice to them but then I tell them that I can't really buy whatever it is they're selling because my husband was just diagnosed with cancer & that we have no insurance & that I don't know how I'm going to make ends meet. BTW, I don't have a husband, I have a female partner... They NEVER call back! :woohoo:
*sorry to those who are actually in that situation - I really do know how that feels as I had a brush with the Big C myself :pals:

3. It's a statistical decision. |
|
It sounds stereotypical, but sometimes stereotypes are statistically true. During business hours, you are more likely to reach a woman at home than a man. Also, women are more likely to stay on the phone than tell you to go fuck yourself and hang up. Of course there are exceptions, but when you're calling lists of hundreds of phone numbers, these patterns emerge.

5. Can I speak to Mrs Nobody? |
|
Sorry, you have the wrong number.
If you are calling me because you have an acquaintance with me, you know how I prefer to be addressed by friend and stranger alike and that is who the caller will ask for.
