1. I remember that interview in 2000
The interview was on election day 2000. Clinton answered every question she asked him. Every one. He started to get testy, but he comprehensively answered every single question she asked. Yet, she and her listeners went and voted for Nader. Now they are getting what they deserve.

2. I know we are all evil (those of us who practice democracy)
But it's worth noting that Bill Clinton never allowed Goodman and her colleague to actually speak. He would just go on long rants where he continually called the opposition "wrong"

3. How do you know who she voted for? And personally I gained more respect
for both of them when I listened to that interview.

6. Er, I listen to her, and I didn't vote for Nader.
(Okay... I voted for Nader in 1996, but it was wrong! It was stupid! Clinton pissed me off with welfare reform. I had been lulled into a sense of liberal complacency, and I had NO IDEA things would get this bad, post-clinton. Who did??)

But to be honest, I sometimes find Amy Goodman humorless and mean, but she has integrity. Hardly anyone escapes her scathing questions, and that's a good thing. I read DU every day, I know how bad things are, but lately... it's actually too depressing to listen to Amy Goodman.

I'm using your post to vent some random feelings... sorry! :hi:

4. Boy did he get his panties in a bunch,,,
I remember a caller into the Ed Shultz show started asking about a statement that Amy Goodman made, Ed said "I don't listen to Amy Goodman" , and then hung up, I was shocked , maybe the Clintons told Ed not to listen.

5. What's the point? Do you hate Bill? Do you think it means anything
Edited on Sat Apr-15-06 04:51 PM by DainBramaged
today? He unfortunately, is no longer President, and it appears that even here on DU, there are Clinton Haters.

Hate the right, not the left, no matter what their PAST sins may be.

Let's continue this further (on edit). Why stir up old wounds, are you a stealth anti-Liberal? NOTHING pisses me off more than a DU member rehashing a bad moment for Clinton, or joking about Monica.

We have Bush, that is a tragedy, use your energy to defeat his minions this November, not rag on Bill.

8. Bill Clinton is the greatest politician of my lifetime
One of the greatest orators, and if not for jealous scumbag republicans he would have done even greater things for the world and this country. They tied him up in investigations his entire Presidential career, yet he maintained a 60+ rating among voters till the end.

Fuck everyone who thinks pissing on him is fun. Read or watch the "Hunting of the President' and get your panties in a bunch as to how he was skewered by the Reich.

Nothing bramaged with your dain :-) . I agree totally, Clinton had a hostile Congress for 6 or 8 years of his Presidency. No issue was too small to conduct full blown Congressional investigations. Yet when he left, I can say it was the best damn 8 years I've ever experienced, in terms of economy and government management. That covers my whole voting life, starting in 71. I know we are supposed to hate Clinton for NAFTA, but I think Republican policies since 2000 have far more impact on our domestic economy than what Clinton tried to accomplish in 98.

20. I first saw a Clinton speech in late '91
Edited on Sat Apr-15-06 09:00 PM by chaumont58
I think it was a speech he gave to the NEA. Very, very good. But the topper in '92 was a speech he gave at a black church, during the '92 campaign. He brought tears to my eyes. He truly is a phenomenal speaker. It really an indication of his truly phenomenal mind. Remember the time what he was giving a State of the Union speech, and the teleprompter went out. He didn't miss a beat, or a word, he continued right on, like nothing had happened. I get pissed at his halfway support of chimpie's excellent eyerackie adventure. I was glad he was president. I felt safe when he was in the White House. I felt the nation was safe. But for the 22nd Amendment, I think he would still be there.

17. We have a faction of Leftist Clinton haters here
They are the chronic complainers, who refuse to compromise. They often have a hard time understanding that the rest of the country does not see the world the way they do. That can happen when you never leave San Francisco or Grenwich Village.

They are like the high school kids who would rather not go out with a good looking girl on a Friday night and be miserable because they can't go out with the Homecoming Queen instead.

I guess plurality of ideas and democracy is only for San Francisco and the Village, according to you.

19. Do yo have a purpose, or grudge, to bring this up now?
Edited on Sat Apr-15-06 08:23 PM by DainBramaged
I live in NJ, and I'm not afraid to tell people what state I live in. And I live in the reddest county in the state, one of two. But when you say the name Bill Clinton, everybody smiles, no matter what their political affiliation, because Clinton was the good times, something we won't have for 3 more years, dog willing.

Your purpose here was not benign, because Clinton is not the enemy.

The idea that I live in a country I spent my lifetime trying to make better, but there's still hundreds of thousands, maybe millions of people, most of them people of color, who will die before their time, drop out of school, go to prison, never have a chance to live their dreams, is galling and painful to me. One of the great regrets of my public life is that for all the progress we made in so many areas we are still losing so many of our young people of color, disproportionately African-American males.

24. Clinton is the enemy to me on many issues
He's certainly not a Holy Savior even if I can tell you I like much of what he did. That's just democracy in action -- the freedom of thought, real freedom not confined to just liking the elite who gets on the television screen.

25. If Clinton is your enemy at all, maybe you belong elsewhere
Spend you energy bringing down the current threat to our Democracy instead of opening old wounds to prove you are extreme.

If you think it's cute to put down Clinton, try Free REepublic, the wounds never heal there.

9. I heard that when it first happened
I didn't agree with a lot of his positions, but the man was brilliant and gave her well-informed answers to every one of her questions.

Unlike the brain-damaged cipher who exists today in the White House.

The thing I believe about Amy Goodman is she is equal opportunity fair, and sometimes fair is taking an incredible opportunity and not being scared to ask what needs to be asked. She did that on that day. I remember being in the car thinking who is this gal getting so tough with the President? However, now that I feel that I know more about foreign policy and issues at large, I thought she was fantastic.

He got angry and reactive because she asked tough questions, wasnt afraid to do it but apparently she "broke the rules". The rules being don't get too close to the facts or the truth, and keep questions, broad and general and non-threatening.

What is disappointing about Clinton is the fact he never pardoned Peltier - and pardoned Marc Rich - because Rich had the connections to be pardoned. That's where the two political parties and the Clinton's are not that different from the Republicans.

Great opening question about the corporate ownership of our elections.

14. Interesting interview
I thought the questions she asked were good and she was very thorough spanning a broad number of topics, but he answered every one of them. He understandably was a bit annoyed near the end of the second interview, but it was election day.

Can you imagine Bush sitting and taking so many critical questions let alone actually taking the time to answer them? I don't agree with his answer to every question, but I respect him for taking the time to answer so many questions. And looking back now, Bush has done everything he can to have reversed the progress made during his two terms.

Bush did an interview with Radio and Television Ireland where the reported asked some tough questions. He didn't do very well.
