Corporations paying to smuggle Mexican workers into US
Edited on Sat Apr-15-06 04:08 PM by debbierlus
Regardless of how you feel about the immigration issue, I think we can all agree that this is an abhorrent practice that drives American wages down....

The corporations should be SEVERELY penalized for this practice. Fines so heavy that it negates the benefits of breaking the law for cheap labor.

http://news.yahoo.com/fc/us/immigration

The story notes smuggling a man in the country illegal to work in carpentary. A traditional well-paying blue collar job. Wages are being driven down for workers in this country due to this practice.

1. Wouldn't it be wonderful if all the anti-immigrant people......
... suddenly turned into anti-cheating-lying-thieving-union-busting-wage-depressing coroporation people?

That'd be swell.

I won't hold my breath tho.

4. The corporations are the root of the problem.

Depressing wages globally in seeking the cheapest labor possible, and pocketing the most profit imaginable.

It is greed at dirtiest.

They want to make ALL of the profit, give the absolute LEAST to the people who do the actual WORK.

2. Fined? How about jail? Publicize their companies and boycott their
products, since it is their business practices that are undermining the US economy.

5. The full article is a great background piece, imo. Immigration is much
more than the "hordes coming across the open border" some trumpet for their own political ends. I thought the highlight on the middlemen was good - these aren't the media's "coyotes", by any means. They're big business.

And, lastly I thought the familial/hometown cultural ties noted in the article were interesting.

It's such a hot topic, I commend Ms. Watson and Rodriguez for the piece.
