Pissed off Republicans registering as Democrats in my district.
:bounce::woohoo::bounce:

That's the good news. Two other ladies and myself from our local Democratic Party Club set up a table at our village's farmer's market this afternoon. We were passing out flyers for our congressional district candidate and registering voters.

Several who registered, former Republicans and Bush voters are not only going to vote for a Democrat but they are changing their party affiliation to Democrat and will vote for Democrats across the board. That's what they said. It was strange because they actually formed a little group around the table all talking to each other about how they had been sold down the river

Every single one of them was more pissed off than most DU'ers. Now for the bad news. Many of the pissed off Democrats are saying they aren't going to vote anymore because they are tired of having the candidates being pre-selected for us by the DLC.

However, the Republicans jumping ship made my day.:-)

1. That made my day, too! Thanks!
Hopefully the Dems will have a change of heart; if they don't try to help fix the problem, they are part of it, seems to me.

7. One of them said that the elections were rigged so
Edited on Sat Apr-15-06 04:18 PM by Cleita
he wasn't going to waste his time. I tried to tell him that if everyone turns out for a landslide it will be too hard for the Republicans to win even with a rigged election, but he wasn't buying it. We used Arnold's initiative defeat as an example that when liberals turn out in droves they can turn an election. I hope he listened to us.

the fan in the coming days will give him some optimism. We can hope.

18. I wish I did. I'm referring to Fitz, Abramoff, the abysmal poll numbers,
dimson's stand for Rummie vs. the military speaking out, Iraq in general and the civil war he's not acknowledging, the next hurricane season... I just bet there's more, but that's for starters.
Seems like he has a lot on his plate.

It is all THERE for them to take...People are SO hungry for leadership and truth, but they remain timid and wishy-washy.

Doesn't California have a closed primary system? Could be the Repubs want to control who gets the nomination.

17. California has a Modified Closed Primary System ...
that gives the "Decline to State" voters some power, or say, in the primaries. Reregistering to vote in opponent primaries is nothing new, and I suspect some Democrats in California's eleventh district are crossing over to the dark side to vote for Pete McCloskey and defeat the turd, Pombo, in the June primary (I know I would if I lived in the eleventh district).

Modified Closed Primary System

California currently has a "modified" closed primary system. SB 28 (Ch. 898, Stats. 2000), relating to primary elections, was chaptered on September 29, 2000 and took effect on January 1, 2001. SB 28 implemented a "modified" closed primary system that permits unaffiliated ("decline to state") voters to participate in a primary election if authorized by an individual party's rules and duly noticed by the Secretary of State.

5. Yeah, but what will that mean in the primaries?
These folks are switching, not because they've become hard core lefties, but because Bush is so batshit crazy right that they're alienated.

These are the types of people that would vote for Joementum or Zig Zag Zell in the primaries. Hopefully, not enough will jump that they screw up the primaries.

36. I sincerely doubt
that, with the ALL CAPS OF DOOM and telling people you're trying to convert to kiss your ass, you're going to win a lot of takers for that approach. Some of us have legitimate problems with the leadership - not necessarily to the point of not voting - but an approach like that doesn't help. It's basically saying "take our shit and stuff your problems."

19. How many times
have you heard it said that former Democrats had switched to republican because the Democratic party has moved too far to the "liberal left"? It should now be said that the Republican party has moved too far to the "radical right". I think the Repugs need some of their own medicine by Democrats publically demonizing the term "radical right" every chance they get the same way that the word "liberal" has been denegrated and defiled. How do you think the Repugs gained control in the first place?

for NC State office, trying to take the nomination away from a real Dem.

I hope this isn't a national phenomenon.

Many fake Dems have been infiltrating elections offices, and trying to get vote-stealing machines in place.

28. The Left Will Win in the End
We always do. The right are too vile in nature to govern. The Left listens more before acting, therefore giving representation more to the populous than the GOP. The Democratic Party is a HUGE tent.

Edited on Sat Apr-15-06 06:39 PM by ginnyinWI
The country will continue to progress. We may take a step back now and then, but in the end we jog forward. They pull us back, then we break free and march forward.

But at present we have 20% of all voters who vote solidly Dem. They have 30% who are reliably Repub. That 50% in the middle are the ones now drifting our way. We need to give them positive reasons to, or else they may just stay home. That's better than voting GOP, but it will be better if they vote Dem.
