Bush Jumps Shark
If President Bush had starred in a television sitcom, would the program have been canceled by now? Television critics call it "jumping the shark," the tipping point when a popular show begins to lose its moment. It's an allusion to the episode of the ABC hit "Happy Days" when one of the central characters, Fonzie (Henry Winkler) jumped over a shark while water skiing -- a moment so ridiculous that it was immediately seen as the beginning of the end for the long-running series.

One possible jump-the-shark moment for this president came in his awkward and incomplete response this month to Harry Taylor, a soft-spoken, 61-year-old real estate broker who cited a litany of complaints about Bush, saying he had never "felt more ashamed of, nor more frightened, by my leadership in Washington."

Bush has never hardened his appeal beyond the reflexive support any president would get in wartime. And as his handling of war grows more and more unpopular, he has nothing else to offer. The result is a failed agenda on Capitol Hill and fewer friends and supporters in his own party. Now in its sixth season, the Bush presidency next year and the year after might well come across like a TV program that producers should have taken off the air before the audience moved on. - crawfordslist.com

12. There's a new version of it now. It's called "jumping the couch."
This one comes from Tom Cruise's jump on to Oprah interviewing couch while describing how much enamoured he was with Kate Hudson. Apparently a very ridiculous moment in his public life...

14. Photo here...

It was truly an inane episode. After watching it, you felt like you'd just eaten a tub of cotton candy.

3. He should have been cancelled after the pilot ...
... the local-network run "Guv'ner of Texassss" mini-series told us he had no talent.

Why didn't anyone listen?

4. He's jumped so many sharks
He looks like someone skiing over a long line of barrels. It's just that it's been like one person at a time. They each saw him jump their own personal shark. For some it was Katrina. For others it was Terri Schiavo. For many it was his stand on immigration.

I wish I could draw that cartoon - sharks lined up like sardines with different names on them and W a-sailin' over the lot.

5. I thought the jump-the-shark moment for this admin was when the soldier
Edited on Sat Apr-15-06 04:22 PM by BrklynLiberal
stood up in front of everyone and asked Rumsfeld why they had to rummage thru garbage dumps for equipment to reinforce their vehicles.
Rumsfeld's totally asinine answer was the beginning of the end of the illusion for the believers that the emperor was wearing any clothes.

7. I think he jumped the shark when he said "mission accomplished"
on the aircraft carrier. He looked totally ridiculous in that flight suit and it was just another lie. Hostilities worsened, many more died, and the long slog is still sloggin'.

10. I agree about Katrina.
That was the moment. This administration's response...and pathetic "response" and finger pointing afterwards...was an unmitigated disaster for Bush.

11. Absolutely, Katrina
Who can forget him flying over the flooded city, staring out the window, three days after the levees broke, two days before he bothered to visit.

but no one who watched those images will ever forget them.

I think he jumped the shark with the Dubai deal. He assumed his Party would support him, no matter what. And they did not.

16. Whichever moment he jumped the shark...
I wish they'd hurry up and cancel the series immediately--no need to finish out their contracted seasons... the viewers have had enough--all they ever wanted and thousands of times more (thousands of things that never in their wildest dreams did they want).
