42. Here's the problem *seen the show*
The E shows are the trashiest portions of his radio shows--out of a three hour show typically a half hour will be the crazy hooker/stripper/porn people type crap and those are what got on the TV show.

If people want to avoid the weirdness tune in around the time Robin reads the news
(not sure what time that is now on his new program)

They've only been exposed to a portion of what he really does. I thought this would be a good way to give them some perspective. Those who like him already know how he hammers on Chimp and that he's always been a champion of woman's and gay rights.

Give it a listen, I'm sure you'll like it. He really does tell it like it is in that clip.

A reporter asks him what he considers obscene, and his answer included the following:

Iraq war
catholic church hiding child rapers
troops not getting supplies and body armor

He says that is all obscene and the things he talks about are just stuff that regular people do.

25. I don't like stern

If he is with it politically fine, good for him. I wonder if he can get more with it and respectful of women someday.. Regardless I am glad he said something about the political situation tho.
But to me,Stern is sexist scum ,and it IS because of his exploitation of women and disrespect of women and his adolescent ignorance that he profits so well from.that he has no incentive to grow past it.He isn't creative enough to be bawdy, outrageous AND respectful of women at the same time yet.Stern is limited..So I don't expect alot of people who are in his fan base to have enough empathy for women as human beings in a feminist way to really understand why I don't like to listen to stern's sexist masturbatory bullshitting at the microphone.Sexism makes something that could be funny and makes it painful.Bullies are not funny.Howard sterns exploitation and meat marketing is a sort of bullying and I find it sickening.Because being a female I am a target of such degradation and I want no part of it so IO do not listen to him,I didn't click the clip either. So believe me, I am glad he is speaking out politically, and using the air time and show he has for something better than stupid sexism.

With a gun to my head and no other choice I'll take a left wing misogynist over a right wing one but beyond that I'm not interested in tolerating some jerk because his politics are correct. With Maher and Stern I can listen up until they start bashing women and then I have to change the station.

35. sexism isn't about being real
at all it's Bullying women, humiliating them and being an asshole and making believe that abuse is"funny",and it's a kind of bravado with a heart of cowardice and it's pathetic. If howard is such a great person why does he stoop to sexism and sell it too?

As for Howard's standing up and speaking out politically and showing his intelligence in that way,I really do wish howard would do more of that instead of his usual lame exploiting of women.
If he'd quit that tired old sexist bullshit he does, and I find out about it, I may give him a listen someday. If he becomes more courageously outspoken politically and less of an asshole to women and other people on air I might see him in a changed way because he had changed.
Crassness is not the problem I have with him it's his degrading of women and his dehumanization of women and his ugly bigotries he has against certain kinds of people that and perpetuates.

67. I suppose it's never occurred to you
that he's mocking those very beliefs by performing them? That the one person positioned as knowledgable and serious on the show is an African American woman? That never quite sunk in with you, I'm guessing, because you're quick to snap and judge, and not too big on humor. There's an old tradition in Jewish and subsequently New York humor of critiquing something by performing it to absurdity. Any sensible person who listens to Stern's show would see that this is what he's up to - the degradation and objectification of women to the absurd point where it all turns around, and it is the degraders and objectifiers who expose themselves as laughable and deplorable.

43. A few words from Stern....
"A bunch of good-looking girls go to that school. There were, like, really good-looking girls running out of there with their hands over their heads. Did those kids try to have sex with any of the good-looking girls? They didn't even do that. At least if you're going to kill yourself and kill all the kids, why wouldn't you have some sex?"

That's what he said the day after the Columbine school shootings. He thought the kids that held the students at gunpoint should have had sex with the girls before they killed themselves and the other kids. When you force someone to have sex with you at gunpoint, that is RAPE.

I think you can gather from that how I feel about Stern. I'd have to lose a bunch of brain cells to listen to his show.

The enemy of my enemy is not necessarily my friend!

60. April 21, 1999
It's from Wikipedia, so you'll have to take it with a grain of salt, but I found other sites with the same information.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Howard_Stern

His April 21, 1999 show drew angry criticism and official "censure" from the Colorado State Legislature for his comment regarding the motives of the two male students who murdered 12 classmates and one teacher in the Columbine High School massacre in Colorado:

"There were some really good-looking girls running out with their hands over their heads. Did those kids try to have sex with any of the good-looking girls? They didn't even do that? At least if you're going to kill yourself and kill all the kids, why wouldn't you have some sex? If I was going to kill some people, I'd take them out with sex."

Stern did not apologize for his words but instead argued that his comments were an attempt to figure out what was wrong with the two attackers.

57. I often hope Stern will go the way of "The Beastie Boys"
They went from "Girls! To do the dishes! Girls! To clean up my room. Girls! To do the laundry, and in the bathroom..." etc., to doing all that Tibetan freedom stuff and apologizing for their crass, sexist bullshit.

I think that Howard Stern is brilliant, and I often respect prurience as a way to provide entertainment, provided the entertainer is aware of the subtext, and I'm not so sure that Stern is. I've tried to paint it through an "irony" filter, or a "shock for shock's sake" filter, but, in the end, I'm left with one conclusion: Howard Stern is a horny guy who only gets his rocks off by interacting with, fucking and oggling porn star-type women.

Just because a man is "progressive," in all other ways, doesn't mean that he easily escaped Penthouse and beer commercial indoctrination. I've known plenty of self-righteous liberal types, who appear peaceful and gentle and aware, and pretend they're all "deconstructed" and everything, but, deep inside, they're running a female holocaust -- meaning that they still won't date a woman, unless she does certain things like shave her legs, act feminine or have big tits or a tight ass.

It's too bad so many fall for that, and it's too bad that someone who could be as cool as Howard hasn't woken up to that fact, as of yet.

63. Interesting post...
... but for the life of me I don't understand what is wrong with a guy being attracted to women who "shave their legs, act feminine, have big tits or ass".

Who cares? If a woman prefers guys who make 6 figures, or has a full head of hair, who cares? People should go for whatever it is they want, why in the world would you put a value judgement on that?

Attraction is not necessarily a decision IMHO.

74. sorry i am body, mind and soul combined. i couldn't or wouldn't deny
or devalue any part of that, or denigrate their existence. i can multi task, and appreciate any or all of those parts in others. i don't objectify anyone, that's total bullshit, the human body is an amazing beautiful thing sometimes, but it cannot always appeal to everyone. it is sadly entirely possible to love someones mind and not desire them in the least. you describe a utopian fantasy that has nothing to do what it really means to be human.

76. You can be "body, mind and soul," whatever that means,
and the human body can be a beautiful thing, but that doesn't mean that people are programmed to be attracted to porn stars. That's all constructed -- different cultures have been attracted to different things. Sure, maybe you can't help it, but that's just because somebody's advertising campaign got to you -- there's no "pheremone" that makes you attracted to someone with balloon tits and a shaved pussy. Whatever. The human body is more beautiful when it's considered an extention of the person, not an icon, or an object.

77. of course, but you can resist all the ads and not go for conventional
or ad campaign type looks, which never worked for me either, bu still have a "type'.
good or bad, i've known lots of guys who ended up with clones of their moms. LOL.
for good or bad, animal attraction happens, and did long before ad agencies came along and tried to dictate the whole thing.

58. late post , hope you get to read it;
Say what you will about Stern, but he has saved you from Michale Powell and the religious rights's purge of radio. You now have a choice, which you didn't have as Clear Channel took over the radio media and told you "This is the way it will be and you have no choice" If you don't like Howard , don't listen to him, his humor is not for everyone. But satellite radio is the first real radio entertainment I have had since I put a FM converter in my '70 V.W. I have listened to Howard's program all week and some is over the top ; some has made me pull off the road and laugh so hard I couldn't drive. When I'm tired of him I have every musical taste possible to choose from , not to mention talk , sports , even old radio shows...(love the old Jack Benny shows etc)....A new day has dawned and you can thank Stern for most of it. Screw you Michale Powell and your religious toadies!!!!!

I'm not Howard's fan, however, he is on our "LIBERAL" side and I really like him for speaking up for freedom and liberty!!!

70. Great clip
He's a smart guy. I have never paid much attention to him until recently, but he really took a whack at the RR in that clip.

72. Not a hater.
I've listened to his show a few times. He mostly bores me, as do most talk radio shows.
Slice anyway you want it, but he exploits the current human condition and can be very hateful toward women.
When the FCC started going after him, he used his air-time popularity to defend his freedom of speech in a very assertive, intelligent fashion. He does have the ability to cut through bullshit. In the clip, he's voicing his opinions, and I agree with what he says. Who gives a shit about fart jokes, when we have the ultimate obscenity--an illegal, ill-planned, war that our soldiers are dying in?

Degrading women as entertainment, with willing women participants or no, I don't find has any entertainment value.

Of course, he talked about his small penis in his book so maybe he feels men and women putting each other down based on physical or behavioral attributes is equality. Common misconception.

75. I wish I had the audio of him defending Jane Fonda & praising Cindy
Sheehan. He said Fonda was trying to shock people into ending an immoral war and she was 100% correct.
