Well, I sure feel safer now.
Sunday morning I was at the Syracuse train station so my daughter could take the train back to school. The Lake Shore Limited was late (as usual) but then it lingered in the station. The conductor commented that the Border Patrol had been aboard since Chicago. Sure enough, a Border patrol officer came walking down from one of the cars escorting two Latino gentlemen and their luggage. I just nodded as they all passed. I don't know who I felt worse for, the officer or the two guys under arrest.

Happy Easter?

1. Latino terrorists! No wonder the train was delayed.
Good thing our Border Patrol got 'em. We can all rest safer for their first rate police work.

2. Maybe it was meant to deter others,
but how much did it cost us to catch two illegals on the train from Chicago to New York? Is this to make sure they all take the bus next season? Like I said, I really wouldn't want to be a Border Patrol Officer. It's an important job, but to spend it rounding up people caught in the system seems both futile and wrong.

We just won't admit that our immigration system is screwed up and these people pay the price. It benefits corporations and people with money to have a ready pool of cheap labor with no access to equal protection under the law. If we had a way to keep these people out, we would have adjusted our immigration laws by now to let them legally because they are needed. The US population is not keeping pace with the expansion of the economy. Spreading the profits of that expansion is another story.
