1. Badly. A mealier mouth is hard to find.... |

I used to like him - then I really watched him equivocating on talk shows...If you think Kerry was bad....

2. I could tell he wanted to run in '08 by the way he prevented '04's recount |
|
I hope we do better than him.

4. No thanks, I live in NM. |
|
He's a DLC Democrat with all their faults. First thing he did in office was cut taxes on the richest, something that threw this state into a financial crisis and caused the lege to dip into the permanent trust fund to pay teachers a 3% raise.
He campaigned on ending the sales tax on food, something he finally did 3 years down the line, but only after jacking up all state fees and taxes on other items, giving working people a net tax increase.
The one good thing he's done was start passenger rail service going north to south, something this state has desperately needed for decades and which has been on the drawing board for the same time.
I would greatly prefer to see him in an office where his negotiating skills, which are considerable, would be of use. I would love to see him as Secretary of State.
I just think he's too conservative and too antilabor to be in the top spot.
(Plus, he was a large part of the witch hunt against Wen Ho Lee, something he should be ashamed of but has never offered an apology for)

the major advantage is his Hispanic roots. Would the Hispanic community support him? My choice is still Clark but I'm curious if he has much of a chance?

All American presidents have been taller than their opponents. With the exception of W, It seems that dirty play was involved there.

I don't mean to imply that this would make him a bad president, but it would give the opposition a lot of ammo.

Not that I think Richardson would be a good candidate.

He wallows in the trough of the corporate fat cats. One of the most vocal dems supporting NAFTA when we were sold out. You can have him.

17. A smart man. I believe he alone among possible Dem candidates is |
|
bilingual in Spanish. If Immigration remains a major issue, and it likely will, Richardson is likely to be a player.
I think he knows more about Energy than many people, and a futuristic energy policy wouldn't hurt to have. Al Gore-Bill Richardson, for example, would poll strongly and would have the force of the future behind it, so to speak.
He's not as cuddly as John Edwards but his virtues are significant and he's a loyal Democrat with much to offer.

19. Not a chance after what I watched Sunday morning. |
|
He was stumbly and repetitive when he spoke. Also Scheiffer (sp?) said something to the effect of . . ."won't that give the terrorists the impression we are weak?" referring to setting a time table to pull out of Iraq and move to the "outskirts" of the conflict. AND that moron, Richardson, didn't even catch the set up. He SHOULD have corrected Scheiffer and reminded him that it was INSURGENTS not TERRORists, but alas his missed it. I was wholy unimpressed with Mr. Richardson. He didn't give a good interview or have the strength of conviction he would need for me to support him leading the nation. I figured it must've been an Easter morning thing though because the other guy (all I can remember is a Repub from VA) was just as bad. Neither of them seems presidential material at all.

Where does he stand on:
Universal, single-payer, not-for-profit health care?
War and Peace?
Iraq, Iran, Terror?
Patriot Act?
Civil liberties?
Election reform?
NAFTA/CAFTA/WTO?
HIs position on NCLB is at least worth digging a little deeper into; positive on the surface. Where does he stand in the "standards and accountability" movement?
I was trying to Google, but my internet connection is so bad this morning that I can't get anything to load. We'll see if I can get this message posted.

I really like the idea of a nominee from a western state.
I like the idea someone of a Hispanic background.
He has both foreign policy and has been a governor which is a plus though I don't know much about his record in New Mexico.
I don't really know much about his stands on the issues. The ones I care about would be refersing policies that have led to the decline of the middle class and reversing global climate change. I also want a candidate who's been consistent in opposing the Iraq war or at the very least has said that he or she made a mistake in voting for it.
I don't like that thing about him claiming he was drafted by a major league team.
