IMPEACH THE PRESIDENT LYRICS NEIL YOUNG'S NEW CD
On his SECOND song on the album titled LIVING WITH WAR, here are the lyrics.

2. LIVING WITH WAR: NEIL YOUNG

I'm living with war everyday...
I'm living with war in my heart everyday..
I'm living with war right now..
And when the dawn breaks I see my fellow man..
and on the flat-screen we kill and we're killed again..
and when the night falls, I pray for PEACE..
try to remember PEACE..(visualize)
I join the mulitudes...
I raise my hand in PEACE...
I never bow to the laws of the thought police..
I take a holy vow..
To never kill again..
To never kill again...
I'm living with war in my heart ..
I'm living with war in my heart and mind..
I'm living with war right now.....
Don't take no tidal wave..
don't take no mass grave..
don't take no smokin gun..
to show how the west was won...
but when the curtain falls, I pray for PEACE...
try to remember PEACE ( visualize)...
In the crowded streets..
in the big hotels..
in the mosques and the doors of the old museum..
I take a holy vow ..
to never kill again..
try to remember PEACE
The rocket's red glare, bombs bursting in air..
give proof through the night, that our flag is still there...
I'm living with war everyday..
I'm living with war in my heart every day..I'm living with war right now.

1. More great lyrics
I'll have to hear the music for those lyrics to make an impact.

Because most people know the melody, here are some of my favorite recent anti-war lyrics:
To the tune of "When Johnnie Comes Marching Home:"

When Johnnie Comes Rolling Home (from "Sing Along With The Republicans" by The Freedom Toast)

When Johnny comes rolling home again, IRAQ, IRAQ!
We know he’ll never roam again, IRAQ, IRAQ!
His legs don’t work, and his shoulder droops.
But that’s OK: we support the troops.
We will all think twice when Johnny comes rolling home.

When our boy comes back broke and bent, IRAQ, IRAQ!
We’ll wonder why he ever went, IRAQ, IRAQ!
Dick Cheney got all his contracts done
And Dubya proved he’s the favorite son
But we’ll all think twice when Johnny comes rolling home.

The White House thinks they did the job IRAQ, IRAQ!
They never heard our Johnny sob, IRAQ, IRAQ!
They never found what they went to find,
And they give no thought to those left behind.
Bush will not be there when Johnny comes rolling home.

We wait for Johnny to arrive, IRAQ, IRAQ!
His spirit’s more dead than alive, IRAQ, IRAQ!
He joined to fight for the U S A,
He never thought he’d get tossed away
And we’ll all wake up when Johnny comes rolling home!

2. I love this line. . .

". . .don't take no smokin gun..
to show how the west was won..." and that he quotes "the Star Spangled Banner."

Would that it were in our lifetimes that our National Anthem be changed to "America the Beautiful" as it should have been all along.

3. But wasn't Young pro-Bush a while ago?
I may be wrong, but I remember he was pretty much "on-board" with Bush not too long ago? So let's not go too nuts praising him for following the way the wind blows now.

He said in 2003 about the Patriot act at a PAW dinner, "We can't forget what brought us together and what we're living for, what makes us who we are, even though to protect freedom it seems that we're going to have to relinquish some of our freedoms for a short period of time," among other things.

4. You know, I am a huge Young fan
and follow his work closely and this Let's Roll song was a real departure from his usual anti-establishment creed. I don't argue that he said the above words at the PFAW group but I cannot translate that to support for Bush. At least not any more than any of the DEMOCRATIC senators who voted for the Patriot Act. Let's Roll was about the guys on the flight 93 and the Afghanistan war, not the Iraq war. Listen to the words of Greendale, the album he wrote in 2002 (I'm pretty sure that's when he wrote it) It's full of anti-administration, anti-war and anti-spying lyrics. Young has always been on the side of those fighting for peace and justice. If he was a little extra "patriotic" right after 911, well, so were many of us.

7. you can't judge people by
their immediate reactions to 911. Many of us have changed our views on things as we have learned what is really going on. the entire world in fact was "with us." now we're standing alone in the wind. If Neil Young used to be "on baord" it's only because he was caught up in the aftermath of a huge tragedy as many people were. Unfortunately Bush wasted away a great opporunity to unite the world.

10. Lives in the Balance - more appropriate today
than it was when he recorded it. Also there's a great video on his website re: Iraq and *. On Jackson's new solo acoustic cd, there's a few songs from the Lives in the Balance era that he performs with commentary re: today's goings on, as well. He was also involved in "Vote for Change".

As for Neil Young - it's doubtful he's ever been a * backer - "Ohio" comes to mind. There's a lot of anti * stuff coming out - it's just a shame they have such a wealth of material to work with.

9. I was wondering about "Let's Roll" also...

but a lot of the stuff on "Greendale" shows where his head is really at. Plus I will always remember him for doing "Imagine" at the post-9/11 "Concert for Heroes"

Just saw "Neil Young: Heart of Gold" yesterday; great stuff. Still, I'm hoping this is a blistering Crazy Horse album a la "Freedom"--which was a great indictment of Daddy Bush.

Neil, take off the Manuel suit, put the flannel back on and get back to work!!!
