Jane Fonda Declines War Protests and mentions Cindy
Edited on Mon Apr-17-06 11:02 AM by cal04
Jane Fonda says she would like to tour the country and speak out against U.S. involvement in Iraq, but her controversial history of Vietnam War protests leaves her with "too much baggage." "I wanted to do a tour like I did during the Vietnam War, a tour of the country," the Oscar-winning actress said Monday on ABC's "Good Morning America." "But then Cindy Sheehan filled in the gap, and she is better at this than I am. I carry too much baggage."

Sheehan, whose soldier son, Casey, died in Iraq in 2004, has become a leading anti-war figure. Fonda said that during a recent national book tour, war opponents — including some Vietnam veterans — asked her to speak out. Last month, the Georgia Senate overwhelmingly rejected a resolution honoring Fonda, an Atlanta resident, for her work preventing teen pregnancy, donations to universities and charities, and role as goodwill ambassador for the
United Nations.

Her political activities protesting the Vietnam War, including a trip to North Vietnam in 1972, have long made her a target of veterans. Fonda, who won Oscarsfor 1971's "Klute" and 1978's "Coming Home," was interviewed shortly after returning from a vacation trip to Argentina with ex-husband Ted Turner. Fonda said she and Turner remain close.
"He's my favorite ex-husband," the 68-year-old actress said. "We get along great. I love to fish, and he has some beautiful property down there."

2. good for her
I know some can never forgive her .

While I have forgiven her I still
remember and feel she made a good
choice in regards to protesting Iraq.

3. Jane doesn't run from her past.
She admits that some of her actions were wrong when she went to North Vietnam.

Some people hind and lie about their pasts, Jane doesn't.

5. I met her once when she
was filming Comes a Horseman outside of Westcliff Colorado, Summer of 1978.

I had a goat, that I milked for my daughter who had an alergy. She, my daughter, was just a little over a year old. Ms Fonda had seen my goat grazing in my back yard and had stopped to talk to me about it.

We sat on the back porch steps and chatted like old neighbors. We talked for sometime, about her children and her father, who she was very worried about.

The baggage she carries is a shame. She is a very real person, down to earth. It must break her heart to know that, and yet have the courage to step back and not crowd the issue.

She is a fine lady.

7. I met her also and she is sincere and very compassionate. When
she drove into the studio where I worked, there was a car accident right in front of her. She did her segment on the show, came out and immediately asked me what happened to the people in the accident; was anyone hurt, etc. I told her it was a small accident and everybody was fine. Jane got in her little Ford Fiesta and even offered to drive one of the girls to her car. She is certainly not pretentious and certainly not self-centered. She was extremely polite and down to earth, and I liked her immediately. She's the real thing.
