I wonder how bad they'll screw this up?U.S. Plan For Flu Pandemic Revealed
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/04/15/AR2006041500901.html

President Bush is expected to approve soon a national pandemic influenza response plan that identifies more than 300 specific tasks for federal agencies, including determining which frontline workers should be the first vaccinated and expanding Internet capacity to handle what would probably be a flood of people working from their home computers.

The Treasury Department is poised to sign agreements with other nations to produce currency if U.S. mints cannot operate. The Pentagon, anticipating difficulties acquiring supplies from the Far East, is considering stockpiling millions of latex gloves. And the Department of Veterans Affairs has developed a drive-through medical exam to quickly assess patients who suspect they have been infected.

2. Folks, please don't rely on the Fed Govt. to bail you out.

I don't care which party is in office, the federal government moves like a turtle with anything it does. Disaster response bodes no better. And with population increases it becomes even more difficult to respond with any measure of speed. Store up some water, dry goods, blankets and propane camping stoves. YOU WONT BE SORRY!

3. My sis is on the DHS staff in Atlanta working on it
She personally recounted the Katrina mess to me; let's hope this goes a little better.

5. You can assume for the poor it will go badly.
Drive through exams, holy Jesus on a rocking horse, it's kind of like going to McDonald's or something I guess. Maybe I'm taking that wrong -- benefit of the doubt -- nah.

8. I believe the plan is to quarantine
It's not a bad idea, but I don't trust them. The best I would expect is they'll quarantine and let the victims die. It wouldn't be the first time. Things like that have happened before. In fact, diseases have been purposefully given to people in this fine nation, and they've been left to die so we could watch what happens, you know.

I can't say it enough, Sambucol is 99% effective against HN51 (the current strain of bird flu).

10. It's the industrial poultry farms that are affected.
You know, however, they'll go after the little guys first. They already want to put a microchip in every critter you've got. It could make quite a financial burden on a lot of folks around here, who just have chickens for their eggs and so on.
