My Enemy Is George W Bush
My enemy is not DU'ers who may have decided or are thinking about leaving the U.S.

My enemy is not DU'ers who are staying put in the U.S. and fighting.

My enemy is not progressives to the left of me or progressives to the right of me.

My enemy is not Ed Schultz or any other progressive radio host, be they paid or not.

My enemy is not liberals I disagree with on certain issues.

My enemy is not liberals I agree with on certain issues.

My enemy is not DU'ers who may be involved in intra-board spats, regardless how pointless.

My enemy is not DU'ers who get frustrated with intra-board spats, regarless how pointless.

Nope.

My enemy is George W. Bush and this Republican congress.

My energy and the energy of millions of us is focused like a laserbeam on getting this criminal regime out of the White House, taking back Congress and restoring hope and purpose and pride in this great land we love so dearly.

Ain't nothing gonna distract me from that.

4. Agree
but why do so many here insist on attacking progressives who have a different position on certain issues than they do?

I have been, at times, called a bigot, a freeper, and had my liberal credentials challenged by other DU'ers, just because I didn't march in lockstep with them on a specific issue.

If we are going to continue to eat our own, and refuse to accept that difference of opinion on issues is okay, then how are we ever to come together to take our country back?

The fact is...not one of us progressives is going to get everything exactly as we might wish it to be. And some of us progressives may hold different...even polar-opposite opinions on certain issues...but it is uncalled-for and counterproductive for us to attack our own, when we should be coming together to attack our REAL enemies.

Let us work out the details and the compromises we all must make later. for now, we should be all united behind a single purpose...regaining control of our country from the criminal regime that now controls it, along with the corporatists.

My enemy is not the low wage earning Christian fundamentalist who voted against his own best interests, and has no health insurance.

My enemy is not the sober conservative who believes in small government and fiscal responsibility, who has been betrayed by one whom he thought was one of his own.

My enemy is not the soldier who thought he went to Iraq to fight terrorism, but found out it was to protect colonialism.

My enemy is George W. Bush and his lieutenants. They are the common enemy of all of us.

I will not rest until Bush and his lieutenants are impeached, removed from office, convicted in a criminal court and locked away for the rest of their lives.

27. I feel you on this....
"My enemy is not the sober conservative who believes in small government and fiscal responsibility, who has been betrayed by one whom he thought was one of his own."

My grandfather, a TRUE conservative, cast his last vote for the MF-in-Chief before he died on November 1, 2004. It makes me sick every time I think about it. Plus, my 25yo cousin was just called to Iraq. If my grandfather hadn't died, this would have killed him.

48. Oh, come on. Read it again.
"Seems as if we have turned our backs on God in the Democrat party."
"All I hear is abortion and homosexuality, as if they are all of a sudden virtues??"
"We apoint judges that rule child porno is a art form etc etc."

In one paragraph this poster lumps 1) turning our backs on God; 2) abortion, homosexuality,
and child porn" almost all in the same breath.

If that's not hate, just exactly what would you call it?

20. About your "brother in Christ" George W. Bush
I know you're just pullin' our legs, but I really would like to know why a good Christian like you thinks George W. Bush is a good Christian as well. What one Christian thing has he ever done in his life? And where in the Bible does Jesus say it's okay to kill people? I really need to know the answers to these simple questions from a good Christian like you, if you last on this board long enough.

Aid and assist them.

You get no pass for being a Democrat. You had better defend the constitution, obey the laws and fight for the people. If you don't want to do these go be a moderate Republican or an independant.

Unquestioned devotion to the party is a malady best left to Republicans and it has no place on Democratic Underground.

49. We have our marching orders: Impeachment must be Job #1
Edited on Tue Apr-18-06 07:47 AM by pat_k
Bernstein's Vanity Fair piece cited Spectors response to Gonzales' assertion of unitary authoritarian executive power. Prompted me to look up the original article -- somehow I missed it at the time.

When Gonzales argues that the Constitution gives the president undisputable powers to conduct warrantless surveillance despite a statute aimed at requiring him to seek court approval, such an interpretation "is not sound," Specter said in the interview. ". . . He's smoking Dutch Cleanser."

Spector's comment provides a great example of something our side needs to learn to do: Rather than arguing with their fascist fanasties (and thus legitimizing them), we need to simply dismiss them out of hand.

52. Good post, Pat
The unitary executive theory was dismissed out of hand in 1974 when the House Judiacry Committee recommended articles of impeachment against President Nixon. It's also dismissed out of hand in The Federalist Papers. Even Hamiliton, who was the strongest advocate of strong executive power among the Founding Fathers, believed in checks and balances.
