The reason I ask isn't that I don't want to hear the truth, but that I believe if the hearings are held NOW, the Pub majority will manage to protect the Presidenet and manage to find that he did NOTHING WRONG! When the Dems take control in 2007, the hearings will already be over, and we'll NEVER know the real truth.

Wow - talk about a leading question!
What this question proves it that Watergate is on people's minds, and that is the level of wrong-doing that is now being countenanced. Wow.
Throwing the W word into a question like that is very revealing IMO.

The only way to win in '06 is to run against Bush. Therefore all Democratic candidates should PROMISE to pursue the IMPEACHMENT OF BUSH when they're elected. The only way Censure or Impeachment will proceed is if we throw the Repugnants out of office and take back Congress. This should be the single, unifying, dominant issue in all '06 elections - make the Repugnants defend Bush and the war in Iraq.

77. The Senate does not impeach the HOUSE does!!!!! |
|
My god, know your constitution. The senate has the power to tries the president. but in order to do this the house gathers the evidence and documents....remember Ken Star?
The impeachment procedure is in two steps. The House of Representatives must first pass "articles of impeachment" by a simple majority. (All fifty state legislatures as well as the District of Columbia city council may also pass articles of impeachment against their own executives). The articles of impeachment constitute the formal allegations. Upon their passage, the defendant has been "impeached."
Next, the Senate tries the accused. In the case of the impeachment of a President, the Chief Justice of the United States presides over the proceedings. Otherwise, the Vice President, in his capacity of President of the Senate, or the President pro tempore of the Senate presides. This would include the impeachment of the Vice President him- or herself.
In order to convict the accused, a two-thirds majority of the senators present is required. In the case of current office-holders, conviction automatically removes the defendant from office. Following conviction, the Senate may vote to further punish the individual by barring him from holding future federal office (either elected or appointed). Despite a conviction by the Senate, the defendant remains liable to criminal prosecution. It is possible to impeach someone even after the accused has vacated his office in order to disqualify the person from future office or from certain emoluments of their prior office (such as a pension.) If a two-thirds majority of the senators present does not vote "Guilty" on one or more of th

Any GOP senate incumbent who hitches his wagon directly to bush at this point has a very safe constituency -- Utah, Idaho, something like that.
The only way the GOP can save itself at this point is by appearing to hold the bushistas accountable, and pulling a very convincing snowjob in the process of exonerating bush's top aides. If they held real investigations, the evidence they'd uncover would be far too damning in itself. They need to get about a dozen Scooters lined up for scapegoating and hit them hard.

I mean, you gotta keep something like that under wraps, with as few people in the know as possible. Just keeping it inside Diebold Inc. would be a chore, and a lot of the GOP congresscritters are not too bright.
They have to be considering hearings, it's just practical CYA stuff at this point.

Even AFTER Freeping, I would bet they can't get this under 80% Yes 20% No.
The reality is just that overwhelming, as are the number of honest votes (I cast only one vote...not sure I'd lower myself to Freep even if I knew how)
And yet, why do I feel like the Busheviks will "win" the 2006 midterm "elections"?
Does this mean I am giving up? HELL NO! (Read my sig line) But I feel as if, democracy-wise, it's already too late.
Prove me wrong, America, prove me wrong.

76. Once the midterms are over and we've won back both House and Senate |
|
Gotta be some teeth to this thing. The reThuglicans must be so severely weakened that no one in his/her right mind would consider voting for one (I know, I know, no one in his/her right mind would do such a thing anyway, but you know what I mean...) ever ever ever ever again in light years.
I tell ya, if Chimpy were gettin' paid $.40 a turd to pick up dog shit, I'd say he was overpaid and in over his head.

Yes, this administration has hidden and manipulated information at every turn. It must be called to account. 93% No, this administration has been making its best effort to deal with many bad situations. We don't need a Senate witch hunt. 6.8%
