As Bush reaches new lows in polls, a reprise: my assessment of his core.
Modifying my assessment of the Bush core supporter.

I have previously said that Bush's core support is mostly religious conservatives who know full well that the man is a craven incompetent, see the war is a failure, can see the human suffering from Katrina, but still support Bush because they hope to see the social agenda pushed through a packed supreme court and republican national hegemony reversing abortion rights and gay rights and establishing a religiously oriented state, and moreover, will lie all day long about approving of Bush's policies in order to protect him.

However, I think there is another element of America that will never, ever admit Bush is anything but right every single time.

The people who would rather have an incompetent, deadly president who rips them off and sends their family and friends to die, than to admit that the peaceniks, gays, democrats, minorities, city folk and liberals have a point.

The people who are so alienated from America that they saw the best thing about Bush is that a) "those people" hated him to distraction and therefore just having Bush as president was huge fun and b) that being "for Bush" meant that you had an ideological and cultural basis for hating all "those people" for a reason other than their money, education, success, etc.

I think it comes out in Katrina responses. The backflipping to find reasons why they don't like the DPs, don't care and shouldn't care, and why Bush is the best-----so much hate. One post I saw said the hurricane refugees were "liberal welfare criminal democrats", and he had the sense to leave out "black", but it was all the same---he isn't going to give up his hate in order to let any of YOU people score a point against Bush.

1. I agree with you 100%
It's hard for me to comprehend this kind of hate, but I do believe you're correct.

I saw it demonstrated during Clinton's term, too, when these hateful people demonstrated disdain for even the most positive things he did (like broker peace in Northern Ireland).

bush supplicants' characters points out the only solution to this mess. No amount of activism and logical correctness, even an unbroken record of being spot on on the issues will carry any real weight with these humans. Conditions have to get so bad as to destroy any sense of credibility among those living in constant illusion.

Not only do the rotten conditions have to be obvious, but whatever solutions are proposed, from whatever source, have to be disguised to look like they came from the right wing, who have to be allowed the space to "discover" the answers and save face by being credited with solutions.

Labels of "republican" and "democrat" are, as we know too well, of little value as descriptors of adult philosophy and need to be dispensed with, as much as possible. All the skills of a highly successful salesman, without lies (spin,) but with the clear understanding of human nature, of which we are very capable, must be brought into play.

We have to fix the problem and make it look like they did it.

3. I think Bush's base continues to support him because they
share one of his personality traits: the inability to admit a mistake.

4. I think my bro supports Bush because he goofed and voted 4 Perot.
Bro is afraid that if he doesn't pull for the Repub, whoever he is, then a Dem will take over and get BJs in the Oval Office. He learned his lesson when he voted for Perot instead of 41. He is stuck like glue to supporting 43.

He has a bad heart, so I don't argue with him, but I am afraid Faux or Rush is going to get him so stirred up it will send him into a coronary.

6. I agree. It's easier for some people to hate than
to try to find solutions to their own problems.
