Cold War, Mideast style
I think we need to step back and evaluate our own cold war with Russia over nukes when we worry whether Iran or Israel will duke it out with nukes. It was the MAD principle that kept everyone in line and I can't help but think that once Iran has nukes they will understand the dire ramifications. Israel wouldn't just stop at Iran if they are nuked, they will take out the Saudis, you can bet your ass Syria is going, Egypt - they would launch them all. What would they have to lose? Israel would launch rather than be the only glassy part of the desert in the ME.

No matter how fundamentalistically fucked Ahmanedinajad is, there is a chance that he won't be in office when Iran finally develops nukes or he will have been yanked back by saner heads.

And then even if both powers have nukes, I would believe they will come to the same stand-off we were in with Russia.

If we drum this historical precedent over and over, perhaps we can learn from history...?

Remember * looked into Putin's eyes and saw his soul, and this is what 20 something years after the wall came down. Who knows what will happen in the ME? Stranger shit has happened and I would gamble that if we wait and let Iran go, the situation will be different when it comes time to use them.

We (ie. the US) lose nothing by waiting since Iran's nukes can't reach the US (yes, yes, I know the fallout would be absolutely globally terrible but bear with me) if it comes to Iran launching them. But the fallout is going to be terrible if we strike first.

I say we wait. Watch and see.

A pre-emptive strike is doomed to fail. Waiting offers a chance of a cold war-like standoff.
