Christians outraged over "Easter-less" eggs.... |
|
This would be laughable, except it is clear that there will be another generation of ignorant theocrats in this country: argh: Angry callers flooded Lake Accotink Park's phone lines earlier this month after an editorial in a local newspaper scolded the Springfield park for not promoting Saturday's Spring Egg Hunt as an Easter activity. The April 15 event also featured children sitting for photos with the park's Spring Bunny. http://www.timescommunity.com/site/tab5.cfm?newsid=16509608&BRD=2553&PAG=461&dept_id=511694&rfi=6:

2. SImple response . . . ask those "Christians" where in the Bible it |

references decorated eggs and bunnies in conjunction with the holiday they're allegedly celebrating.

39. Easter bunny is a secular (non-christian) symbol... |
|
So, those who ban the bunny as a christian symbol are ignorant. Those who defend the bunny as a christian symbol are ignorant. It just goes to show how many people know very little about the world in which they live.

"and Jesus, upon his ressurection laid eggs upon the ground for the children." Why do people persecute Christians so?

all this time I thought it was for fear of Jesus coming back and wanting all the eggs. The verse in my book reads
And upon the 3 day angles appeared upon the rock and exclaimed Jesus lives! Hide the eggs!
BTW...I got by book from the "Mind of Mencia"

17. It's a TOTALLY pagan holiday |
|
Okay, I know Christmas is, too... but Easter just SCREAMS "Sex Sex Sex" (in a fertility sense).
Next they'll be pissed about a Jesus-less Beltane... (they so better not mess up my favorite Pagan day of the year!)

Rabbits, eggs and Ostare, Ostara, Ostern, Eostra, Eostre, Eostur, Eastra, Eastur, Austron and Ausos...
or whatever you call her. Crikey!
I just don't understand these people. They really have become some kind of twisted over the past 25 years. My pet theory on why: Because liberals, progressives and sensible conservatives didn't ridicule them and keep them on the fringe. Instead- and this includes a lot of mainstream Dems- they legitimized them- and gave equal credence to their whacked out -and often pathological views. And so now they've spread- beacuse they're easy-
Hence, they now stand shoulder to shoulder with science, common sense and reason.

Don't these people have anything better to do than look around searching for reasons to be offended? Geez. Maybe the park should educate them all on the origin of the word "Easter"! LOL

22. What's wrong with "winter break?" |
|
Seriously, why should Jews have to call it "Christmas Break." (BTW, I'm not Jewish). There are lots of holidays crammed into a couple weeks (including New Year's) -- I think "Winter Break" is a perfectly good, descriptive name.

they dont allow it. they dont allow santa and reindeers either. they boycott the bunny and santa like they say others are going after christmas and easter. so the callers about eggs, arent in line with their fellow persecuted fundamentalist christian.

11. True, but this was a sh*t storm stirred up by the Washington Times... |
|
..and they certainly have a right to boycott it, but jamming the tax-payer funded Park's phone lines, at the behest of a "news"paper is way out of line. Personally I think next year the Park ought to cancel the thing altogether.

But those holidays are mostly Catholic--so true Fundamentalists do not consider them CHRISTIAN holidays.
And it coincides with El Dia de los Muertos. But that's Mexican--so it's even worse.

10. As a child, the "Easter" Bunny confused me... |

... until my mother explained that it had nothing to do with Jesus and was a celebration of Spring.
She always sang an honest lullaby.
IMHO, the kids at the "Spring" Egg Hunt won't be confused about the "Easter" Bunny.

23. Right. The "Spring Bunny" is actually a more accurate name, IMO. |
|
Birth/spring/fertility -- symbolized by baby bunnies, chicks, and eggs -- now that's something to celebrate. Christianity co-opted those celebrations.

14. They should just face it: bunnies and eggs are the PAGAN part |
|
of the celebration.
My family isn't Christian, but we like the colored egg hunt -- it's symbolic of Spring to us.
No one's stopping them from going to church and celebrating the resurrection however they want -- why are they trying to stop other people from celebrating how they want to?

33. I say TAKE THE JESUS OUT OF EASTER! |
|
Easter is a pagan holiday and has nothing to do with Christ. The "christians" need to call their festival of resurrection something else.
Easter/bunnies/chicks and ducklings/eggs/spring - all part of an ancient pagan celebration known as EASTER.
Jesus crashed the party.......
