Kerry attacks BushInc for targeting "dissent" and retired generals.
Tomorrow's op-ed and speech coincide with the 35th anniversary of Kerry's testimony to Congress when he "dissented" the policy in Vietnam in the name of thousands of fellow veterans.

Kerry calls attacks vs. outspoken generals ‘shameful’
By Herald staff
Friday, April 21, 2006

In an op-ed article timed to coincide with a speech tomorrow at Faneuil Hall, Sen. John F. Kerry slams the Bush administration for “shameful” attacks on the patriotism of those questioning the war in Iraq, especially former military leaders critical of the Pentagon’s game plan.
Noting that several retired generals have called for the resignation of defense secretary and war architect Donald H. Rumsfeld, Kerry faults “this administration and its conservative surrogates” for accusing the dissenting officers of “acts of disloyalty” that give “aid and comfort to the enemy.”

“That line of attack is shameful, especially coming from those who have never worn the uniform,” Kerry writes, citing his own service in Vietnam in 1971 and his antiwar testimony at the time.

“The most important way to support our troops is to tell the truth,” Kerry writes in the op-ed, which was e-mailed to the Herald by Kerry aide April Boyd. “Patriotism does not belong to those who defend a president’s position - it belongs to those who defend our country in battle and in dissent.”

I think the Republican machine wore out its ability to swiftboat military veterans and Democrats. Now, the constant harping has become an OBVIOUS political tool. Once that happens, it loses its effect on the general population, and most are reacting with disgust now for the tactic, itself.

7. Kerry is correct as usual.
Everyone has a right to question the path our government is taking in regards to Iraq when it is our soldiers dying and it is our money being spent over there. We have a right and an obligation to demand answers, changes and accountability from our government.

9. They would crucify ANY Dem actually, if they stuck their neck out far
enough to hurt BushInc. Nonservice lawmakers would be targeted and smeared for nonservice.

14. If Bush had an ounce of patriotism he'd have fired him after Abu Ghraib,
but, instead Bush is 100% fascist and Rumsfeld is crucial to carrying out their agenda.
