84. I'd be okay with that
I live surrounded by churches. Every damned on has chimes that ring on the hour, some on the quarter hour. And the Catholic Church thinks we all need to know when the damned 7 am mass is starting!!!! My own church--and yes, I've bitched at the board--has chimes so loud that my house walls vibrate.

Add to that the sirens, the blasters in cars, the motorcycles...well, the last thing I'm doing is adding to it all by sounding my horn every hour.

I'm open to other ideas, but nix on the noise pollution!

There is a campaign for this right now; the idea is to wear a black armband every day that says "No war."

I'm gonna leave my office...walk 6 blocks to my car, honk the horn, lock up, then walk back to my office...? Hmmmmm....

I see this resulting in multiple road rage shootings, knifing, rear-endings....

How about...

Encourage everyone to American's boycott wal mart.
Encourage everyone to pick a day and not drive AT ALL.
Encourage everyone to write/call their reps.
Encourage everyone to call/email the white house.

They've abdicated their membership in the human race by declaring that they have no responsibilty toward the rest of their former human tribesmen.

As for me, I'd have their car towed.

I wouldn't even TRY to ask them politely to move it.

I'd jump at any excuse to have it towed away and crushed into a cube.

24. What a collective bunch of wimps all you naysayers are!
Good gawd, the idea isn't that you have to do it each and every hour, just if that particular hour is convenient.

WTF do you care if it pisses someone off initially? After a matter of time, people will start asking why, and that opens the door to them getting educated for once in their lives. Yup, I guess we better not make any noise for fear of what the other side might think of us. Oh, we might upset someone. LOL!!!

The problem we've been having all along is nobody is willing to make any noise. I'll bet the same people rolling their eyes in this thread have never walked in a protest march, have never held a protest sign on a sidewalk, and have never done a thing other than whine from behind their computers to like-minded people!

This honking plan might not be perfect, but with a little tweaking, it could end up being very effective. The only way we're gonna ever have a chance at gettimg outsiders to jump on our bandwagon is by taking chances like this and making a little noise. At least it's an idea that involves some action and would get some attention.

29. things like
maybe not trying to do it every hour, but having a few set hours instead, like 8 AM or 8PM for example.

It would only be effective if enough people knew about it, so word would have to be passed beforehand, and people would have to be game.

People would have to be prepared in advance with what to say when questioned by someone who wants to know why you're honking. After some time, though, everyone would know why, and once they know why, then the more people who'd likely join in.

The main thing would be to make sure in advance that you were in cahoots with enough other honkers to join in with the honking rallies so it doesn't come off as seeming like no one supports the idea.

59. Only YOU are interpreting the OP as being "annoying" to neighbors, so
you can continue to mock his idea to make yourself look funny, while all you're doing is making yourself look more and more like an apathetic hypocrite because you have no plan of your own. At least the OPer has a plan and is trying, which is a helluva lot better than sitting back and doing nothing but poking fun at someone else who's coming up with an idea, even if that idea doesn't make sense to people like you who like to sit on their butts doing nothing but whine about Bush on their computers.

BTW, while you've been doing NOTHING but thinking up witty things to say, which aren't even very witty, I've been standing on a sidewalk in front of a local post office from 8 to 10 this morning holding "Honk For Peace" signs with other people who prefer to ACT once in a while.

by standing in front of a post office with many other protesters holding signs saying "Honk for Peace", "Bush Lied People Died", "Impeach Bush Now", and several other ones way more original.

In fact, in all the times I've done it, I can only remember one neocon lady who had the nerve to walk up to us and tell us we were wasting our time. Someone replied to her that if we were wasting our time, then why were so many more people honking this year than last.

The only time I've wasted is on you, although it's kind of fun, so it's not a total waste. This is so easy, lol.

enthusiastic about it. She suggested that people adopt wearing t-shirts or armbands instead.

Honking horns should be used only for warning others of traffic dangers. I believe most state laws say this.

This is not a good idea.

55. Those are the choices? Honk every hour or do nothing?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Tell me again the sequence of events that leads from honking every hour to Bush being out office.

I'm not afraid of annoying anyone - I'm just not interested in annoying my nice neighbors for NO REASON.

66. I see you also have a problem with comprehension. Why on early would
you have to honk in your driveway or just in front of you neighbor's house? I don't see where the OPer suggested that. Unless you're as lazy as you are apathetic, you could get together with other supporters and drive somewhere where the message would more likely be gotten across. Oh wait, it's too dumb an idea. It might get someone mad at us and we wouldn't want that, would we. lol

68. "Every hour". Where is my car most hours? In front of my house.
If you want me to comprehend something else, something else should have been stated.

Just more proof of what a dumb non-idea this is. And you call it a PLAN.

73. You're like a broken record. You, don't have to do it "every" hour, but
only if it happens to be a convenient time for you at some particular hour when you're out and about in your car. By "every" hour, I'm sure the OPer didn't mean that we had to be out each and every hour of the day to honk our horns. I'm sure he's only suggesting that if enough people take part, there will surely be more than enough people out there at any given hour to take care of business...not all the same people at the same time. Yeah, as if you can really think the OPer doesn't expect you to get any sleep. Gimme a break.

75. Not ever hour? What about the "plan"?
And if I'm doing it when convenient, how will anyone know it's a protest honk?

78. You've made it clear that you're not interested in DOING anything, so
why bother explaining it to you any longer? Afterall, why should you get up out of your easy chair and do anything of substance when you can sit in the comfort of your own home or office and whine about Bush day and night to people who already know the same things you do about him? As if that's going to help get him ousted....whining, pissing, and moaning to like-minded people. Yeah, that will sure change a lot of minds. Too funny!!

83. "Doing", in and of itself, is meaningless. "Doing" must be attached to
an outcome to wortwhile.

45. That would totally get you shot
in Houston. Too much road rage down here, especially when it's hot.

Whenever I hear a car honk I know it must be a Yankee in a rental car. The "natives" don't use their horns (there may be the occasional native who uses his/her horn, but he/she is soon sent to the big highway in the sky).

47. I'm all for protest, but this is a bad idea
I realize we want to "spread the word", but not by honking our horns. You are assuming that people won't just be annoyed by it and then forget all about it (which most people will).

Wouldn't it be much better if all of us sported tshirts or bumper stickers that said "IMPEACH" or whatever message we are trying to get across?

Or if each of us committed to talking to x number of fence-sitting people every week?

Or if each us of volunteered for the Democratic party, to take back Congress?

Or if each us wrote LTTE every week?

There are many many more direct and less annoying ways to get our message out.

48. I have a better idea.
Every hour on the hour, whether I'm in my car or not, I make chicken noises as loud as possible. It doesn't matter whether I'm at work, in the grocery store, serving jury duty...I still do it. Then when people look at me and ask me what the hell my problem is, I explain that it's a form of protest I'm organizing to get Bush impeached. They usually back slowly away from me, I'm assuming to go home and think about participating in my protest themselves. I haven't had any takers yet, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Any day now!

52. Bad idea.
The horn on your auto is a SAFETY device, NOT a communications device. That caller was on Randi Rhodes also, going on, and on, and on ... so hopefully her 15 minutes of fame have now expired.

If you do plan to go along with this, please don't do it hear a hospital, or a nursing home, or in a residential area. It's just dangerous to make noise so consistently that people put you on ignore.

Besides, have a little pity for the people who work nights!

Armbands, yes. Signs and stickers, yes. Demonstrations, yes, when noise is appropriate and welcome. Random blasts of noise from your car? No, thanks.

56. Maybe as a protest we could make prank phone calls.
Or we could toilet paper houses.

The one thing I'm still waiting on is how irritating our neighbors leads to Bush being out of office.
