Why conservatives are so "Happy" and are willing to tell you about it |
|
This from the "Happy wives" thread that got locked. I thought I would share.
I have run across this several times both personally and in the media (meaning TV). There seems to be a concerted effort for people to mention how "happy" they are I see it all the time and there is a high degree of later mention of politics specifically conservatism or this retro-feminism stuff.
I could make a joke here about taking "happy pills" but I won't.
It seems that either these people are trying to convince themselves that they are happy, have been convinced that they are, or (most likely) there is a continuation of the conservative movements image management. We have recently seen more than one "study" about how much better lovers conservatives are (I find it hard to believe that politics has anything to do with romance) but this hearkens back further. The conservatives seemed to have decided that this was an important part of their new selves when they bunkered down in the 70's in their think tanks and reinvented themselves. Suddenly they were no longer grumpy old men in the back room counting their pennies...they were now happy carefree and fully content. Everything was fine because they were conservatives and they were rich (don't YOU want to be rich). They had seemingly perfect lives and perfect wives and they loved life. See being young and free and a hippy was not required to have fun as if it ever was.
Think about the angriest nastiest public figure you can imagine-Rush Limbaugh- and how he supposedly lives the good life loves everything about his wonderful life smokes the finest cigars and has a palatial estate...etc.
This, in my opinion, is just more of the same.

1. This "happiness" transcends income level |
|
I think it has to do with the idea that "ignorance is bliss." Or perhaps it's a end-timer religious thing: "my life sux now, but I'll be rewarded after the rapture."

2. Oh the religious aspect of it |
|
Okay that explains several of the people I have heard this from. Thanks.

study proving that conservatives are better lovers than liberals. I think these are just talking points that have no basis in reality.
I suppose the 33% who still support this administration have a certain amount of smug satifaction because their politics are being reinforced. I don't know if that can be equated with happiness.
I am a very happy person in my personal life. I have a wonderful family, good friends and interesting activities to keep me busy. I am not "happy" about the direction of country, though.
And from a purely anecdotal point, the conservatives I bedded ages ago were all about them. I wouldn't consider that being good.

5. I saw a bumper sticker on an SUV the other day: |
|
"Annoy a Liberal: Work Hard and Be Happy."
Which, I mean, there's the whole thing in a nutshell, there: their main goal is pissing off liberals. And if they agitate for a better life, they'll become liberals (in their minds). So keep your head down, and content yourself with earning minimum wage: after all, it's those damned liberals who think you should earn more!
As long as they maintain a solidly anti-liberal posture (as opposed to any pro-conservative, or ANY kind of pro-anything posture), they're happy. How fucking sick is that? They're happy because they're making liberals pay.

7. If they're so happy.... |
|
Why do they whine so? They're being persecuted by Liberal Elitism, Hollywood's Attack on Family Values, The War on Christmas, etc. etc.
The conservatives I know don't seem any happier. Less informed, for sure. But not happier.

10. It's like my Right Wing mother could be having a "melt down" |
|
Screaming at us kids ... her head figuratively splits open and and orange light pops out ... but then! = The phone rings and an amazing transformation takes place, she picks up the receiver and in a sweet mellifluous voice says, "Hello."
It's all pretend ... in Right Wing worlds nobody ever mentions being unhappy (or cousin Gary's overt alcoholism and destructive behavior - shh!), not EVER! Why? The hard issues are NOT ever addressed. Why else could you explain their marked denial and morAnic sideways anger at "the other?"
More than ever, the above rules remain *the LAW* in today's Right Wing BushBotBorg America! "Mega dittos, I loves you Rush!" :puke: :hi:

the study was probably conducted by the Conservative Pedaphilia Association

When you're in traffic and notice a pro-Bush bumper sticker, take a look at the driver. Chances are, you'll see a middle-aged or older male, alone, who is tightly gripping the steering wheel with a grimace on his face. He's listening to hate-radio. And the female in his life is long gone. And he hasn't heard from his grown children in months/years. He feels under-valued at work. He isn't. The other employees are idiots. He's not... He never goes to church. But he considers himself very religious. And he knows everything. That's just from my own survey. Take your own and report back.

Personally, I think this is it. I've heard Rusty Limpdick repeat this mantra to his sheeple that they are all "happy", even though I see evidence every day that rightwing extremists are very unhappy & pissed off people.

14. "Happiness is a way of travelling, not a destination." |
|
In my experience, very few conservatives comprehend this. Conservatives seem to conflate 'pleasure' with 'happiness.' That's a deadly error.
