if rove's new role is campaign organizer,or whatever you want to call him-is he on the federal payroll(versus the RNC)?Is that not a direct violation of the hatch act?

use official authority or influence to interfere with an election
solicit or discourage political activity of anyone with business before their agency
solicit or receive political contributions (may be done in certain limited situations by federal labor or other employee organizations)
be candidates for public office in partisan elections
engage in political activity while:
on duty
in a government office
wearing an official uniform
using a government vehicle
wear partisan political buttons on duty

2. The impression I get is that Bolten wanted to lend the appearance

that a "shake-up" had "refreshed" the beleaguered Bush White House, so rather than actually dump Rove, who may yet be indicted, he pretended to shift him from one "role" to another, I guess to shut GOP doubters up.

If there's a skunk under the porch and it's stinking up the place, moving it from the northwest corner to the southeast corner won't stop the smell.

Can't say if the Hatch Act provisions were violated, but this adminsitration doesn't pay much attention, if any, to the law anyhow, so you ask a very pertinent question.

They've played the same old crappy tune before. Shuffling chairs in hell isn't the same as climbing out.

How about that BOLTEN?

6. Bolten is a more hard-boiled wingnut than the usual brand
is my hunch.

He may even succeed in getting rid of Harriet Miers, and a few others, but replacing bad public servants with different bad public servants isn't going to do public service any good.

Bush's presidency is over.

4. there is a method to my madness-
I am considering legal action if I can get a solid background.Depending upon the seriousness of the violation-the penalty can be termination.
Penalties for Violating the Hatch Act

An employee who violates the Hatch Act shall be removed from their position, and funds appropriated for the position from which removed thereafter may not be used to pay the employee or individual. However, if the Merit Systems Protection Board finds by unanimous vote that the violation does not warrant removal, a penalty of not less than 30 days' suspension without pay shall be imposed by direction of the Board.

8. Write your Senators and Reps, Repub and Dem!
Thanks for posting this -- my email that I sent:

Dear XXXXX:

I am writing you about federal employee Karl Rove and his new focus on the 2006 Congressional Elections.

I want to point you to the Hatch Act regarding federal employees:

These federal and D.C. employees may not-

use official authority or influence to interfere with an election
solicit or discourage political activity of anyone with business before their agency
solicit or receive political contributions (may be done in certain limited situations by federal labor or other employee organizations)
be candidates for public office in partisan elections
engage in political activity while:
on duty
in a government office
wearing an official uniform
using a government vehicle
wear partisan political buttons on duty

Here is a link to the Hatch Act:

http://www.osc.gov/ha_fed.htm

Clearly this is a violation of the Hatch Act, and I hope that you and your colleagues will do something about it. I do not believe that my tax dollars should be used to pay Mr. Rove for electioneering on behalf of Ken Mehlmann and the RNC.

Sincerely,

XXXXX

10. Thank you...my thoughts exactly
it seems to be a misuse of federal money and position to appoint the President's staff to work on republican campaigns.I believe Democrats,Green party,Libertarian,et al voters pay taxes, too, and should be equally represented.(which,I believe, was the Intent of the Hatch Act-to avoid the obvious bias-regardless of party in power- that would occur)

12. I really think he's about to evolve into Major Major from Catch-22

The only time you can go in to see him is when he is out. When he is in, he's out.
