Just made a Freaker "crap" her pants.
To be fair, I don't know if she posts on Freaker RepuKKKe - lic, but she is most definitely a Bushbot.

You might know that I'm active duty military. Anyway, went out to lunch and was just going to pick up some Kung Pao Shrimp at my favorite chinese place. While I'm waiting for my food, an older lady (about 50-55) came in and started talking to me. She asked if I knew of a AAA office, and I told her where it was.

She looked at my uniform and said; "can I just tell you, my husband and I, we just love the military and our troops, we think you guys are great and we really support you...we're Republicans of course"

I smiled at her and said; "that's nice, I happen to be a Democrat". She sputtered and stammered a little bit, then she said; "well I just love our President and first lady and we thank God for them".

At that point I asked if she had children. She said yes, a son and a daughter. I couldn't resist, so I asked; "Where are they stationed?"

She looked down at her feet and said; "oh, they're not in the military, they go to school"

At that point her table was ready and she left. The whole time I was waiting for my food, I would catch her looking at me sheepishly while she slurped her Won-ton soup.

I saw her get up to go to the restroom, and I can't help but think, I may have caused her some indigestion.

You would be surprised. Freakers and Bushbots see me in my uniform and assume I'm a knuckle-dragging wing-nut, just like they are. It gives me great pleasure to ensure they know that I'm a Democrat, and I'm serving my country. They don't know how to respond, other than to change the subject, or run away.

He's approached all the time by well-wishers. That's great. But those who start the whole "why does the media never tell the good news from over there?" aren't ready for his answer. Because there really isn't much good news. And there's a lot of bad you never even see.

They "support our troops" the same way they support their favorite NASCAR driver.

They buy stickers to put on their cars.

And only the working-class actually have to buy tickets to watch the war on TV.

19. I wish I could think that way...
Edited on Fri Apr-21-06 01:05 PM by ElboRuum
I mean, really. The world would really seem a lot easier to deal with if I could put everybody in a box like these people do. You are in uniform, ergo, Republican. But that's what being Republican is all about: rigid adherence to the rules of the club. The rules state that everybody who is "A" does this, does that, and believes in this. Everybody who is "B" does this, does that, and believes in the other. "We are type "A" and we think type "B" is atrocious and inhuman."... blah, blah, blah. Nevermind that a person who is "B" could have some "A" beliefs or do some of "A"'s this or that. That's not allowed. That's type "C" and type "A" hates them even more than type "B" because their presence is both confusing and contradicts their simplistic understanding of the universe.

Interestingly enough, while "A" may think it diametrically opposes the "B" it claims exists, they're probably similar in more ways than different. "C" diametrically opposes "A" much better because apparently, "C" stands for "counterexample", the easiest way to refute the truth of a theory.

45. Fascinating analysis! "simplistic understanding of the universe" indeed.
And your post hit precisely on the theme of an "epiphany" I had a little while ago, regarding the reasons why the Bush White House is having such a difficult time dealing with the freefall in popularity this administration is suffering.

It just suddenly occurred to me that even with Rove still on board and operating (for now), and even with mostly the same staff and cabinet he's had all along, Dubya is hindered from responding in any effective way to his rapidly declining fortunes. And why is that? I believe it is because of his SIMPLEMINDED WORLDVIEW~!

Rigid behavior such as you described almost always indicates maladaptive (and often disastrous) choices and responses to external events. And Dubya is nothing if not rigid. His simplistic, overtly pious view of the world gives him only so much ammunition, only a limited number of ways to approach problems. He has what some shrinks would call a "limited behavioral repertoire."

So he keeps making stupid mistakes over and over again, and that's become obvious by now even to most citizens who supported him at one time, I think. He has no good explanation to offer even to those who voted for him because he sees life in such a basic way. Since his way is not working anymore, he has no idea what to do -- he keeps doing the same things wrong, expecting different results, and we all know what that indicates....

I figure that if Dubya had served only one term, he might have made it out of there without bumbling so much, continuing to use lies and coverups to keep his fan base in the dark about his actual ineptitude. Since his minions stole the 2004 election for him, however, he is rapidly running out of ways to use lies to cover his lies ... it's that old saw about the tangled web he has woven when he first practiced to deceive.

Anyway, thanks, ElboRuum, for your excellent summary of the sort of attitude that is now crippling this pResident -- and probably a great many of his supporters.

57. I Wish I had been a bit quicker on my feet
When she said; "we just love our president and the first lady, and thank God for them"

I should have just said; "WHY"????

- Because he's so honest?
- Because he served so gallantly in Vietman?
- Because his twins enlisted and are on the front lines in Iraq?
- Because he's such a good public speaker?
- Because he's such a great businessman?
- Because he finally sobered up at age 45?
- Because he hasn't had a DUI in over 20 years?
- Because he's done so much for veterans health care and benefits?
- Because he's secured the borders?
- Because he's a uniter?
- Because he's such a "deciderer"?
- Because he has such respect for human life?
- Because he's improved America's image all over the world?
- Because teachers are now getting beheaded in the classrooms in Iraq? (brings new meaning to education reform doesn't it?)

or is it simply because he gave you an extra $300 in the form of a tax-cut?

I mean really, why should you thank God for this?

It's irritating, and I blame the media and the other Repuke enablers. She assumed that because I'm in the military, I must be a Repuke. For 20 years, the media and the Repukes have portrayed the Democrats as ones that "loath the military", and the Dems have allowed them to get away with it.

34. I'm curious...
Why do you think he's so supportive of Republicans, Shrub, etc. and why do you suppose he just assumes that vets would naturally be Republicans? Granted, the Republican party has become the party of "if it's troublesome, blow it up", but I guess I'm kind of curious where he got the confusion that Dem means anti-war (in all or most cases) or that vets should naturally be pro-war (in all or most cases) and therefore Republican...

Funny, most vets I have the occasion to talk to have a very circumspect view of warfare... I guess that having been there gives you a perspective not easy to recreate in any other way.

both for your service, and for your comments to that woman. It always boggles my mind to find that many Republicans really believe they are the only ones who "support" our troops, or serve in the military. I loved your last line to her. Sadly, my sister could be that woman. She and her husband are firmly Republican, and far-right religious. They have four children, all of an age to serve in the military, but not a one of them has even participated in ROTC. However, they "fully support the troops" and Bush, and think the invasion/war in Iraq was the right thing to do. They just don't want their kids involved.

37. Wow, and I'll bet some of your other "encounters" with people
so presumptuous and pompous have had a sharper edge to them, too! Would LOVE to hear more of your stories.

Seems to me you're doing a greater service to your country, in a way, by "educating" people like you just did that Repug lady than all the military duties you have, ya think? At least it's surely adding a LOT to your service when you can wake up a few of our fine citizens along the way.

I have a large circle of vet friends, but they are mostly Vietnam vets, and they weren't even able to wear their uniforms on the street or in restaurants without being mocked and spit upon when they returned from duty incountry -- I'm sure you know all about that. It does my heart so much good to see that you can walk about in your uniform now and be respected affectionately by almost all types these days. Right? Please tell me it's so! Most of the active duty folks I know (sons and daughters of my Nam vet pals, usually) seem to be having mostly good experiences among civilians.

I sure hope that doesn't change as the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan grow ever more unpopular.... (Why does everyone seem to keep forgetting there's a huge mess we've made in Afghanistan, too, btw?)

GOODONYAMATE! for spanking that old gal's rear. :) I wanna hear about MORE of your experiences along these lines. You just made my day in a big way.

67. Republicans are so full of shit it's coming out their ears! The military
I was in was full of average guys and gals from hard working blue collar families. I would say the vast majority of them are democrats! Most young men and women in the military don't even bother to vote. If the truth was known how people in the military voted, the cons would be shocked!

79. It hasn't changed
Most of the regular military, Non-Com and below, is from blue collar, union, hard working, go to church on Sunday middle class to lower middle class and poor families.

Some of the officer ranks are fairly "wing-nutty", but you still have quite a few officers, myself included, that would call themselves Democrats.

It's a perception thing. The repukes have told the lie that Democrats "loathe the military" for so long, it's become an accepted stereotype.

Most of us, and I don't mean to speak for all of the military, simply want a government we can be proud of.

84. Someone asked me that once...
Edited on Fri Apr-21-06 03:46 PM by Left Is Write
I worked for a DoD contractor at the time - 1988, during the presidential campaign. I was working with one of our subcontractors, and he assumed that I would be voted for George H.W. Bush. When I told him I did not support Bush and that I would vote Democrat, he was shocked and appalled. When I told him my father (a programmer/analyst for the same company) was also a Democrat, he got downright angry.

"The Democrats are trying to put us out of work! How can you not vote for Bush? How can you not be a Republican?"

I said I'd rather put the war industry out of business and be out of a job than vote for Bush.

(ETA - of course I thought his whole "put us out of work" thing was hysterical hyperbole anyway. There was plenty of peacetime work for us.)

130. Just tell them the facts!
... that you prefer belonging to a party which truly reflects the military man, not the corporations who use them as fodder in their global money-grubbing games.

Maybe they should be reminded that it's DEMOCRATS such as Robert Kerrey and Daniel Inouye who have received the Congressional Medal of Honor. Or that John Murtha and Max Cleland, outspoken critics of the Iraq war, are combat veterans. Or that both John Kerry and Al Gore, unlike draft dodging Bush, volunteered and served in Vietnam.

Yes, they'd rather vote for a pampered draft dodger than actual combat veterans. Maybe that's the question to ask them -- WHY?

on more than one occasion had certain officers been able to read between the lines as I saluted in a sharp, precise, military fashion. I could never get over the fact that some LTs did not understand that being rendered a salute, even when we were inside the wire, was the same as pointing and shouting, "Shoot HIM, he's the fucking officer!"

You know what they need to do to win. They get so close, and then...instead of responding quickly to John Elway, they allow him to march 92 yards down the field in the final minutes for a tying score and lose in overtime.

When does the suffering of the Cleveland sports fans (and I mean Browns, Indians, Cavaliers) end??

My kingdom for a Super Bowl...that city would implode (but in a good way)

I've from Columbus by the way. We could either go south for the Bungles, or north for the Brown, well I always considered myself a northerner.

Hey, at least we've got the Buckeyes.

Parent-trap snares recruiters
The tune changes at some homes when they hear 'sign here'

Thursday, August 11, 2005
By Jack Kelly, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Staff Sgt. Jason Rivera, 26, a Marine recruiter in Pittsburgh, went to the home of a high school student who had expressed interest in joining the Marine Reserve to talk to his parents.

It was a large home in a well-to-do suburb north of the city. Two American flags adorned the yard. The prospect's mom greeted him wearing an American flag T-shirt.

"I want you to know we support you," she gushed.

Rivera soon reached the limits of her support.

"Military service isn't for our son. It isn't for our kind of people," she told him.

SO he died for Democrats as well as Republican could go to Heaven... Well yse
Does He call on us to love everyone equally? Yes

Ok so if Jesus makes no such ditinctions. Why would you?

If our first call is to evangelize, why would you want to ostracize half of the people you want top reach by beating them over the head with political divisions that make little difference to Jesus.

They rarely take the bait....but it is sooo much fun to watch them squirm.

If you laid out all the issues , I believe most would identify with our side. I dont know why some believe the repukes are better for the military. Especially after the past 6 years and how bush has abused them.

127. I live behind the Hoosier Iron Curtain, (Freeper Land). All my
neighbors on my rural country road vote for (cheap labor) cons. Absolutely none of them were ever in the military. I'm pretty sure I'm the only vet for miles around. They do have a young guy running for County Sheriff who parades his military service very boldly on his campaign literature, so much so it's freakin' hilarious..

121. How in the hell can ANYONE thank ANY God for George Bush?
Thank you for you story and for speaking the truth. It's good to make the Earth wobble a bit underneath the feet of these wack jobs.

I will NEVER understand comments like the one this lady made. How in the world can anyone be thankful to GOD for George Bush? What exactly are they thankful for? The lie-based war? All of the killings? The horrendous injuries? The innocent Iraqis who have been killed in a senseless war? Our damaged environment? The high price of gas? Our crappy standing in the world? The rejected Soc Sec plan? Our unprecedented national debt? The lies? The corruption? The scandals? The indictments? The illegal wiretapping? The failure of No Child Left Behind? The vote stealing? The fact that he wipes his butt with the Constitution every morning after he swigs down a fifth of vodka?

I don't get it!!! I just don't get it!!

What are these apes so thankful for???

131. Great stuff
I don't know why, but I was in the supermarket yesterday and a fellow in fatigues walked past me,he seemed really happy, was yacking it up with some other folks.. and I, wel, I SALUTED HIM.. and this is strange because this is something I NEVER did in the military, I made a point of not saluting people if I could get away with it..

To me I would salute someone ONLY if I thought they DESERVED IT, and there were times when I was nearly court martialed for it.. but for some reason it just felt right, maybe a senior moment where I slipped and the auto training came into play, my body just reacted and did what they drill into you for years..

I think I surprised the guy, as I have the whole long hair, John Lennon glasses, shredded clothes (I live in Hawaii so cut all the sleeves off my shirts), look - may have thrown him off.. then again, if you've been in the Military you have a certain air about you, a lot of times you can just TELL that some other person did time, and you play the "guess their age, what war they were in.."

I still don't support any of these guys that are torturing or murdering (and there IS a difference, even in the battlefield), but I guess I got the feeling this guy was BACK and GLAD OF IT, so it was more of a welcome home thing..

I LOVE YOUR STORY THO, Brilliant! Short and sweet, too bad you didn't have time to wonder aloud why no Bush "kids" or relatives weren't serving their country, like the DOOFUS CLONE of GW they interviewed on tv last week.. also as a vet I always want to let them know that Bush is ROBBING Vets of their Health benefits, combat pay, etc..

But if you get too preachy it ruins the subtlety and beauty of the moment, great JOB, and thanks for serving as well, I SALUTE YOU, :)

132. A Salute is really just a form of greeting
I know some officers that will pitch a fit if someone fails to salute, but it really is only a form of respect and greeting.

I'm a Navy "Mustang" Officer. That means I started as an "e-nothing" and worked my way through the ranks. Even now, as an Officer, I will often be the one to initiate the salute when I approach some junior folks. I realize that maybe they don't see me, or are unsure if a salute is necessary. If I initiate it, it takes the pressure off them, and shows that even though I out-rank them...I respect them.

Sea Story: I was going through indoctrination on my first ship. I was an E1. The Command Master Chief, a BMCM that had done back to back river boat tours in Vietnam and had been in the Navy since Noah was a deck-hand was giving us his in-brief on the fantail of the ship. An O1 walked by, and the CMC kept right on talking. The O1 made the mistake of his life. He stopped and asked this Master Chief; "don't they teach you to salute an Officer"?

The Master Chief reached into his pocket, pulled out a coin, and told this Ensign; "here's a dime son...go call your mom and tell her you met a real Sailor today".

141. I love some of the stories I have from the Military
real treasures, real men - this is what Bush is missing from his resume, the HUMANITY you are mixed up with, the cross section of ALL Americans that show the depth and breadth of our American Soul. We had race relation classes in the USAF, didn't need them really, hell, we all LIVED together, during the draft the Military was a smaller version of the "melting pot" that is the heart of the United States, and it was a great time and place for a young man, tho I didn't even want to be there, I DID feel like I was an important part of the "machine", and owned a piece of the Constitution as I was earning it.

I was a procurement Specialist, and made it up the the grade of e-4 (I believe), a SGT anyway, and one mont or so from a Staff Sgt (which was what my brother was, and after 14 years in the USAF he was pissed to no end that *I* was nearly at his rank), but I was in a good field, had tested high and was right there buying all the implements of destruction along with containers full of cereal for the troops, joysticks for SR-71s, or selling huge ancient govt buildings for a dollar.

One day I was handed a purchase order for carpeting for the doghouse owned by a General. (this in the days of the $800 toilet seats) SO I gave the General a little call. "G'morning sir, this is procurement and I just wanted to let you know that we're not buying any damn carpeting for YOUR doghouse.."

It was specifically against the rules and I had no idea how it had got past anyone.

He sputtered, and railed and said nasty things then ended with, "Son do YOU know WHO I AM?"

And I said, "Yes sir, you are General such and such.. Do you know who *I* AM?"

"No, as a matter of fact I don't.."

"Then F*CK YOU General.", and I hung up the phone. I suddenly realised that there were not all that many young males in the office and that he had a pretty good chance of finding out who I was, so I grabbed the purchase order and high tailed it to the Office Commander a Major.

He had a big grin on his face and said, "Don' worry about it. I'll take care of this one.."

Luckily I was never found out, or the Major got the General to back off, I know he didn't get the carpet for his doghouse. It had pissed me off that I was buying all these war weapons for a war I didn't agree with, but it was my job, and I had sworn to do my duty, and in those days if you walked around wearing your uniform in some towns outside of the towns near the base you could get spat on, or called a "baby killer" by the very people that YOU wanted to hang out with, grow your hair, smoke their stuff, play music with, etc..

I see that world again, tho they've made it a sort of crime to dis the troops now, even the DU will shut down a thread when someone posts that they don't support the troops, which I have done before when entirely too disgusted, but to remind people that altho LEGALLY troops can't complain about Bush, they can STILL REFUSE an order that they believe is ILLEGAL. It's in the UNIFORM MILITARY CODE OF JUSTICE, I had them all memorized so I could f*ck with officers :)

So I am torn, I appreciate what you do but not the position that you have been put in, as I was put in a similar situation, an umpopular war, waged thousands of miles from anyone that could do us harm, by a president that everyone wished would just GO AWAY..

Glad to see that you initiate the salute, you I would have saluted, you can just tell who's worthy and who's not.. some of the "butter bars" (First Lieutenants) got respect from no one - myself I more repected those who'd gone through the ranks to get there, instead of being handed those little yellow bars for showing up straight from college.

And the Navy is a whole nother animal, it would have been my second choice, there's something about the sea that makes for great stories, different from the SKY where I lived, but just as primal. The old guys had the REAL stories and if you listened like I did you grew and grew, if you didn't you were a fool, as they were the best stories and tales you can hear outside of your own family's.

In a sense the military ARE our family, the sons and daughters of Uncle Sam..

Thanks for your post, what a great laugh, those old salts are the best, and cut through egos like butter :)

Stay safe.

142. Ain't it the truth
It's amazing how presumptuos people can be. Truth be told, there are surely an equal number of Democrats as there are Republicans in the military, maybe even more, but you wouldn't know that from listening to the MSM, or that other expert on military sacrifice, Rush "my asshole hurts so I can't serve" Limpballs.

You know deep in your heart that Rush would shit himself a new asshole if he ever had to face combat.

Oh, and the myth just keeps getting worse and worse. You ask any military person, and they will tell you that every "stinking" TV that is controled by the Officer ranks, and that's about all of them, are frozen on Faux News.

Loved the story one of our DUer's told about how her husband got ahold of the remote one day and "parental locked" Faux News. I bet the withdrawal from the kool-aid was ugly.
