Yesterday's Record High of $3.065 a gallon broken
San Diego reaches new record-shattering high

This morning, San Diego gas prices broke another record for the county with an average price of $3.105 a gallon for regular unleaded.

This new record high is 4¢ higher than yesterday's all-time record-breaking high of $3.065 a gallon, with diesel now averaging $3.21 a gallon, up 15¢ since last Friday.

Today's survey shows an average retail price hike in San Diego of 14.35¢ in less than 4 days for regular unleaded, breaking the inflation adjusted high of $3.08 set in 1981, according to this morning's front-page story in the San Diego Union Tribune.

Several small independently owned gas stations in San Diego County have shut their doors to protest the high prices. Independent stations must buy their gasoline on the spot-delivery market. On Wednesday, most independent retailers had to charge $3.20 a gallon just to break even on their gasoline, so it is entirely possible that more price hikes are in store for San Diego stations. Right now, the "cheap" stations are experiencing price lag, where as they run out of gasoline they are forced to replenish with more expensive gasoline. Many stations increased their retail prices by more than 10¢ in the last 24 hours. Expect more jumps at the pumps in the coming days.

Regular Unleaded Statistics for San Diego:

Average price today: $3.105 for regular, up 82¢ since January 1, 2006

Average price yesterday: $3.065

One week ago: $2.93

One month ago: $2.65

One year ago: $2.63

Two years ago: $2.03

4. this doesn`t mean shit -adjusted for inflation
in 1976 gas was around 60 cents a gallon and i was making around 10 an hour. today i`m making alittle less than 10 and gas is 3+ a gallon. it`s not inflation it is the lack of wage increases that is screwing everyone but the upper classes

5. What it means is that people can no longer say
Edited on Fri Apr-21-06 03:00 PM by bananas
that gas prices aren't so high when adjusted for inflation,
something that's been said over the past few years with each price increase.
I agree with you about wages.
