GOP LTE Writer: WA GOP Is Unraveling

Controversy is breaking out within the WA GOP over Chris Vance's effort to force Mike McGavick on his party as the GOP nominee for U.S. Senate against Senator Maria Cantwell.

This fight became much more public when Phil Spackman's letter was published in yesterday's King County Journal:

SENATE RACE

GOP is unraveling

For quite some time the state GOP has been trying to get Susan Hutchinson to drop out of the upcoming Senate race. They have tried everything possible to get her not to run. The state Chairman Chris Vance and Vice Chairman Freddie Simpson have been engaged in some of the most outrageous behavior that you would think leaders of a state political party would never be involved in.

Let’s feed Chris Vance to the ‘gators
by Goldy, 11/11/2004, 11:45 PM

How important are provisional ballots in determining the outcome of the governor’s race? The WA State Democratic Party is planning to sue the King County Elections Department to gain access to the list of voters whose ballots have been ruled invalid.

In response, state GOP chairman Chris Vance made one of his usual ill considered stupid comments:

“I’m now becoming very worried that the Democrats are going to try to turn this into Florida,”

I can’t blame Republicans for trying to run out the clock, but this habit of ridiculing Democrats for wanting to count every vote shows just how little the R’s respect the electorate. Turn this into another Florida? How fucking arrogant can you get? If votes are left uncounted, then this is another Florida.

Apparently, Republicans only respect the will of the voters when it agrees with them.

Chris Vance lied
by Goldy, 12/21/2005, 12:08 PM

State GOPolitburo Chairman Chris Vance is either a liar or a fool… or both. Of course, this isn’t really news to anybody who has followed WA state politics over the past year or so, but it’s worth repeating, especially when he sends out one of those blatantly false press releases like yesterday’s doozy.

In response to the state Dems’ Santa stunt, in which they called attention to the $14.3 million parting gift Safeco is giving outgoing CEO Mike McGavick to kick off his Senate campaign, Vance accused the Dems of hypocrisy:

Maria Cantwell never resigned from Real Networks in 2000, she simply took a “leave of absence.” During 2000, the company paid her $10.5 million in salary and stock options. Cantwell then funded her campaign with this money.

That is a complete and utter load of crap.

The money Cantwell cashed out in 2000 came from the stock options she had vested during her four years working as a Vice President at Real Networks. Early Real Networks employees were granted generous, five-year option schedules with the first fifth vesting after one year, and the rest vesting in six-month increments. Because Real Networks was a tiny, risky startup at the time she joined – whose shares might have eventually been worthless – the strike price on her original option grant was only pennies a share.

Randy Gordon has bowed out of his Congressional campaign in the 8th CD. The remaining Democratic contenders are Darcy Bruner and Paul Abrams.

See NPIand Chad L’s DKos diary for details.

Blog scuttlebut here, here, and here also has it that Phil Talmadge has decided to withdraw from the WA Democratic State Party Chair. I’m totaly bummed; he was my preferred candidate — especially when I did the thought experiment of Phil facing off against Chris Vance on Robert Mak’s show.

Pomeranian Perks for Governor Christine Gregoire

When you’re governor of the great State of Washington, you’re afforded things others aren’t, like state patrol protection for your dog.

According to the Seattle P-I, the state patrol is now protecting Christine Gregoire's Pomeranian from raccoons, coyotes and possums that live near the governor's mansion grounds. The State Patrol has gone so far as to hire a professional trapper to protect the 13-pound Franz.

"We have raccoons and coyotes in my neighborhood, but state troopers don't camp out to protect my neighbors' pets," said Washington State Republican Party Chairman Chris Vance. "I'm sure there isn't a tremendous amount of money being spent here, but the arrogance is amazing. It's no wonder Christine Gregoire is one of the most unpopular governors in America."

In Latest Rasmussen Poll Cantwell Leads 52-37

According to the latest Rasmussen poll, released on November 30th, Senator Maria Cantwell now leads Mike McGavick by a margin of 52-37.

It's no wonder that McGavick is pushing Vance out there to step up attacks on Cantwell.

7. Chris Vance: From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Chris Vance
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

n 2002, Chris Vance was elected Chairman of the Washington State Republican Party where he presently still serves. He has strengthened the Republican Party by getting Republican officials elected, significantly Rob McKenna the first Republican Attorney General in 13 years. He also played a notable role in Dino Rossi's failed bid to become the state's governor. After winning the first two statewide ballot counts, Secretary of State Sam Reed certified Rossi as the winner; however, a third count revealed the winner of the election was Democratic candidate Christine Gregoire. See Washington gubernatorial election, 2004.

Vance played an important role in Rossi's election challenge by raising money for the legal fund.

9. There has been speculation about this for some time...
Edited on Tue Jan-10-06 02:02 PM by Johnyawl
...completely unrelated to Abrahmoff.

Vance has been spectacularly unsuccessful as party chair. Under his leadership the repugs have lost control of the state legislature; lost in a landslide to Patty Murray last year(Murray won or tied in all but three counties state wide); lost control of the King County council (most populated county in Washington State), have lost ground in Pierce, Snohomish and Clark counties (2nd, 3rd, & 4th in population); have failed to unseat ANY of Washington's 6 Dem congressmen,(and are in danger of losing one of their 'safe' seats this year) have failed in two attempts at the Governors mansion (the first time they lost in a landslide).

The nearest Vance has come to ANY success is the '04 governors race, which ended as the closest race in the history of the state. The repugs were unsuccessful in getting the courts to set aside Gregroire's victory and having a new election. Vance's fat face, and whining and crying during the court fight cost the repugs dearly with the general population. Vance's efforts to keep that issue alive blew up in his face this year, and made the repugs look like petulant, mean spirited, sore losers. Always nice when your enemy shoots himself in the foot :-)

on edit I completely forgot about Rob McKenna, Vance's one notable success.

I live about six blocks from that worthless shitbird; he's been both my state representative and King County councilman.

In 1990, when he was doorbelling in his run for the state house, he ran shreiking from my yard with my dog on his heels.(a shepard/lab cross)

God, I loved that dog!
