Is this war still about oil?
I mean...since we occupy Iraq, why isn't that crude making it to the states?

1. Who said it was about cheap gas for the public?
Exxon and Halliburton are sure getting plenty rich.

2. You have to secure pipelines and infrastructure but the main point is
This war was not about giving you cheap gas.

Exxon is doing just fine thank you. Have you looked at thier latest earnings?

3. Well a few points
1. The war was never about making cheap oil available to a lot of Americans - it was, in so far as it was about oil, about making money for big oil companies.

2. As hinted before Oil was an important reason for this war, but not the only one (nor, in my opinion, the main one).

3. By making the war about oil we gave insurgents and rebels an obvious target (i.e. pipelines and oil transportation routes), and they have, to a certain extent, taken advantage of that.

4. it's about simultaneously keeping control of Iraq's oil
AND keeping it off the market.

This lengthens the end cycle of peak oil, ensures control by the current oil bidniz, and maximizes profits.

6. Its REALLY about China
yes..on the surface, its about oil and money money money...BUT...the real purpose of that oil is not to bring the price down. The purpose is to CONTROL the oil. As China grows, its consuming more and more oil. Since China has nukes, huge armies, etc, we need a way to keep China in line and that way, for the forseable future is oil. Which is why BushCo want to own as much of the Middle East as humanly possible. Lives be damned.

China yanks our debt chain, we squeeze China's oil pipeline. Its a sick attempt to 'level' the playing field and keep the US viable.

It'll never work.

9. Exactly...
which is why China and Russia are supporting the inflammatory rhetoric coming out of Iran. It's a game of chicken that we will all lose in the end.

11. Indirectly
I believe more and more everyday that the only reason that we went to war with Iraq was to keep Sadaam from trying to tie the Euro to oil.
