Brad Pitt! Making a REAL difference in New Orleans!
Brad Pitt Sponsors Competition To Rebuild New Orleans

NEW YORK -- Brad Pitt said rebuilding after Hurricane Katrina is long overdue.

So the actor is sponsoring an environmentally friendly design competition to kick-start reconstruction in New Orleans.

Pitt tells The Associated Press he's hoping for "green" architecture that still respects "the historical traditions of the city and the voices of the people."

Pitt has teamed up with the environmental group Global Green USA, and plans to lead a jury of architects and local leaders to pick six finalists. Those six designers will then have a chance to work with the neighborhoods on more detailed proposals...

...According to Global Green USA's Web site: http://www.globalgreen.org/ the organization is "committed to creating green affordable housing, sustainable cities and climate solutions that work for communities, with Brad Pitt's passion for intelligent architecture and determination to combat inequity."

The honorary national task force of the project includes Julian Bond, Gen. Wesley Clark, Leonardo DiCaprio, Morgan Freeman, Lee Hamilton, Pat Mitchell and David Orr."

1. That's nice
I wonder if this is what Rush was going on about today. He was really angry at the idea of putting gardens on the top of buildings, ranting and raving more than usual. '

6. It makes him cranky when Dems have plans...
Makes it uncomfortable for them when people help people, too. Lots more pleasant thinking & telling everyone that everybody in NOLA has guns and is trying to kill each other. Much more pleasant. You can see that, right?

:sarcasm:

I just read it on Huffington Post.

I love this guy.

I also love the way he deals with this "Brangelina" bullshit/garbage/horseshit/nonsense.

7. That is awesome.
I'd love to see more about celebrities investing for the general good. I don't know if this is just rare, or if it just doesn't get much press.

14. it'd be more productive
to see the politicians doing the same... but at least there are those that do their part. I'm sure it doesn't get the press it deserves.

10. Good to hear
Personally, I think Brad Pitt pretty much screwed over Jennifer A, but this will definitely redeem him in my book (at least mostly)

12. Personally if a girlfriend I had took issue with my political activities
and noted that they were "disrespectful to the president (Bush)", I'd probably walk out on that relationship too. She had it coming!!!

16. Oh my God! This is really strange...
I was just thinking about the split between those two(I have nothing else on my mind-sarcasm,) and not knowing anything about it really, wondered if Jen was a con.
Then when I came back to this post -You said it!
Go Brad and Angelina!

30. Ms. Aniston is on the record as saying "Bush is an Idiot" and had
a Kerry sign on her lawn. When we believe rumors we are no better than a freeper. :hi:

Here's backup:

17. It reads like total nonsense.
I don't believe for a second that Jennifer Anniston is a Freeper.

I don't care about their marriage or break up, but I am glad that Mr. Pitt is lending his name to a good cause.

18. As with all gossip, it depends on who/what you believe...
I don't read near enough of the tabloid news to know whether this is true or not. I just recall seeing it (perhaps from that Vanity Fair issue with her on the cover that featured the Sibel Edmonds article in it). I hadn't earlier recalled that it was just freeper sites that were reporting this info, but looking through google hits, I didn't see many "objective" sites or progressive sites with this info either, so it might be fabricated. There was one other www.celiberal.com site that showed her as a liberal too... This page seems rather inconsistent with this notion:

http://www.celiberal.com/showCeliberal.php?id=33

But IF Anniston was giving Pitt crap about not supporting Bush, then yes, I would feel that reason enough to leave her then. If not, then perhaps the case isn't as clear to the rest of us...

I remember reading that somewhere, so I think the whole pro-Bush thing was made up.

22. Don't flame me but I am not surprised

Seems like I did see a photo of her in a Kerry T-shirt.

Maybe that was just for show.

Jennifer Aniston seems like a selfish lady to me. I heard her being interviewed and, IMO, there is no there there.

She sure knows how to make money but she doesn't seem to be the brightest bulb on the tree to me.

I don't like seeing rumor misrepresented as fact. She was and is still quite politically vocal.

13. I'm so glad to see building like
this getting underway..Props to all these people who are involved.

I get to go to a concert tonight in Albany, New York because my friend's husband has work down in New Orleans helping to rebuild.

They had tickets to Solas(They saw them in Ireland last year at a small pub and thought they were fantastic) but he got called to The Big Easy and she asked me to go with her :D

26. I am happy that your friend's husband has work and that he is helping out
it NOLA. I am also happy that you get to go see a show because he is down there working and cannot attend.

I just wonder...why aren't some of the residents of NOLA who have been shipped any damned where the government wanted to send them, being brought back into NOLA to work and rebuild their own city and their own homes? Certainly Haliburton and the other BushCo companies have hired illegal aliens to come into the city to work.

36. Nice move, but sometimes I wonder if I would prefer Tyler Durdn's approach
"In the world I see, you are stalking elk through the damp canyon forests around the ruins of Rockefeller Center. You'll wear leather clothes that will last you the rest of your life. You'll climb the wrist-thick kudzu vines that wrap the Sears Tower. And when you look down, you'll see tiny figures pounding corn, laying strips of venison on the empty car pool lane of some abandoned superhighway."
