About Impeachment
I'm 100% for it, but looking at it strategically, will it work? I believe with hard work and continued drop of Shrub and his fellow repukes, that we will take back the House and even perhaps the Senate. So "impeaching" the Shrub will be likely, since the Constitution only requires a simple majority in the House to have a trial of the charges. But here's where I get nervous. Charges require a 2/3 vote by the Senate for conviction. Even if we take back the Senate, it won't be by much at all, so in order to get a 2/3 majority, we will need about 15-17 repubs to vote with us. There are a few moderate repubs (Snowe, Chaffee) but not many.

So, the fact that shrub could be impeached is excellence, but I know we all here at DU want conviction and removal of office, but if he is acquited by the Senate, then nothing further can take place (unless we start massive riots and such).

I'm not saying to back down now, but I'm just saying it won't be as easy as everything thinks to get him out of office, especially with the many BushBot followers in the Senate.

Your comments are desired and appreciated.

1. The process of impeachment
as we all know by now, is a long one, and it can create a lot of stumbling blocks to a president getting his agenda acted on. I support the impeachment process not only because I believe shrub lied his ass off and has perpetrated continued criminal behavior while occupying the WH, but also because it will serve to obstruct, at least a little bit, his agenda.

3. good point about the agenda
I hadn't thought about that, and it is a good point. Though with a majority in the House a lot of his agenda would be thwarted there too.

I'm just fearful that the repukes wouldn't have enough decency for the majority of the American people and kill the conviction process, and then we can't do anything about it... We really need Shrub down in the 20s for approval rating to bolster this effort.

2. IT will be tough
I'm not sure if it's doable. But I 100% think we should be talking about. Even if we can't actually impeach him, we can talk about the differences between the Republican way of doing things (i.e. illegal and grasping and violent and decietful) and the Democratic way of doing things (i.e. legal and honest and somewhat less violent and honest again).

4. It is problematic. The last one didn't go so well.
Even with all the support from the GOP booster club. But something is going to happen, we just don't know what or when. We don't seem to be at a tipping point yet. But I think it will be driven from the bottom up, not managed from the top like before. I think the American people are going to get really fed up with old George and his cronies.

6. The last one failed for several reasons.

First, the American people were strongly opposed to it and supportive of Clinton.

Second, a series of House proponents went down in marital scandal flames.

Third, Ken Starr wasted millions and ended up admitting he couldn't make any of his false charges stick.

None of those reasons is applicable in this case. The crimes are real (Bush has confessed to over 30 counts of crimes against the Constitution on live TV - the wiretaps). The people hate Bush and will be glad to see him go. And this is no sex scandal - it's substantive crimes against the Constitution, against statute, and against humanity. They won't be able to wipe out Dems for hypocrisy, because none of them have committed mass murder, mass spying on Americans, or massive looting of the treasury.
