55. Sure enough, there was a galaxy of questions about
Intelligent Design at the Q&A portion. Many quite similar in nature.

The author was graceful in each response. he holds the view that ID is a legitimate philosophical query. And science is science. He seems to see the entire picture, and isn't about the business of heaping scorn on ID.

He expresses what is most likely the view of most folks: that existence remains amazingly beautiful no matter how much of it is explained. It actually deepens the core mystery. (I'm paraphrasing)

56. I caught part of it,
it was fairly complex and seemed to cover a lot of issues.

The only time my BS meter went into high gear was when one guy went on about how a dollar a day to Chinese workers gets balanced out by the output of work, and that this was somehow equal in balance between the American and Chinese worker and that blah, blah, blah...WTF?

I think I was "baffled by bullshit", but we also can't rule out the fact that I'm an idiot in such matters as this.

23. Tennessee Williams/New Orleans Literary Festival - Hurricane Katrina Panel

Rosemary James, Tom Piazza, Jed Horne, Douglas Brinkley, 20th Anniversary Tennessee Williams/New Orleans Literary Festival - Hurricane Katrina Panel

In the Wake of Destruction
While Hurricane Katrina may have decimated much of the local landscape and scattered New Orleans writers and residents nationwide, it likewise gave rise to a groundswell of creative projects chronicling the catastrophic event and its emotional aftermath. From quickly constructed coffee-table tomes to in-depth dissertations on the storm’s how’s and why’s, to loving looks back at the city that once was and will be again, bookstore shelves are burgeoning with post-Katrina literature. In this panel, we explore the growing genre with authors of recent Katrina-themed works and those still in the making.
Panelists: Douglas Brinkley, Jed Horne, Rosemary James, and Tom Piazza.
Moderator: Michael Sartisky.

Calvin Johnson

Calvin Johnson chronicles the history of the U.S. Constitution in his book "Righteous Anger at the Wicked States." Mr. Cashill compares Ali’s life with those of other championship boxers of his era.
