1. Musicians reflect the mood of the public
I can remember so many songs from the 60s relative to Nam and Nixon which are just as appropriate today. Many are getting more and more air time today also.

We need MORE of this from the younger generation of musicians.

9. I agree.
Artists like Green Day, The Dixie Chicks, Pink, and Eminem have all contributed.

21. We do need more from this generation's musicians
And I would add artists in general are in the vanguard of the public's sentiment - often by several years.

22. We do, but Pink, Dixie Chicks, Steve Earle, and others...
... are starting to pick up the slack!

26. haha--and the reporter didn't even get it!
Good thing she memorized the questions the bosses told her to ask so she wouldn't have to listen to what he said.

6. Do you remember his live . . .
. . . "Rockin' in the free world" with Vernon Reid on SNL in 1989?

One of the greatest rock performances ever.

I hope Neil still has some of that left . . . cuz we need his stuff more than ever.

8. I loved his spontaneous appearances in the Vote For Change Tour!
Saw him come in at the end right after and with Dave Matthews in Ames, Iowa in 2004! Was an awesome show there!

12. I saw him during that tour
It was one of the best live shows! The entire first half was him by himself on stage, playing an acoustic guitar and a harmonica, doing unplugged versions of all his best songs. :)

14. Cool. I've never seen him.
Somewhere, I read an account from the recording engineer who recorded "Ohio" with CSN&Y. He wrote it in an hour or two and they recorded it the same evening. Crosby pulled every string he had access to, and the LA station was playing the damned thing in a couple days. Artists wielded so much power back then . . .

18. We still can
I am a musician, but I do not support the part of the industry that is monopolized by large corporations. I only buy music by unknown artists or those who have migrated to smaller labels or start their own. Personally, I now do all of my recording at home on my Mac, though, most of my time is spent playing for live audiences.

No longer will I pay high prices for CDs or concert tickets. I can simply go to a local club and hear some of the best music in the world for a few dollars, eat a shrimp po-boy for a few dollars more, buy the band's CD for 10-15 bucks, then go home happy. :)

20. I admire your discipline.
I do try, though not as successfully as that.

I try to make up for it by stealing shrubberies from the Lawn & Garden Dept. at Wal-Mart .

7. I liked how the studio host slammed her at the end!
Edited on Fri Apr-21-06 06:53 PM by calipendence
Her "Hmmm..." showed she wasn't too happy with his comment that CORRECTED her BS that she was spewing to Neil!

13. She'd earlier asked him if his motivation was to increase sales...
(as if that was his prime motivation) since the president's poll ratings were down.

At the end, the studio host said (paraphrased here) that anyone who ascribed his motivations for making this album to getting media attention and sales is "ridiculous"!

15. Yeah, unhuh, Neil Young needs to "increase sales." Please.
The man is way beyond stumping for change. He has money. You don't see him stumping for Viagra like Bob Dole, do you? Or doing denture cream ads? Those are the folks looking for some bucks.

As insulting as she was trying to portray the impeachment songtitle was. I'm glad that Neil kept his cool!

10. At the end..
the anchor says something like:

"Anybody who thinks that he's doing this for publicity, I think that's ridiculous".

He sounded pretty passionate about it.

28. When is His New Album Coming Out?
I read about it in the newspaper today, but they didn't give a release date. I want to hear that "Impeach the President" song. And yes, we need better songs from the younger generation. Even their interpretation of punk rock is just awful. It's punk rock that's all about fashion, not content. Groups like the Sex Pistols & the Clash were *controversial*! They were a threat. I want to see bands like that again. Where are the *dangerous* groups?
