Workers Picket Verizon Again Over Customer Service

TAMPA - Verizon's largest labor union in Florida held a second protest early this morning at about a dozen company sites to protest what it calls poor customer service.

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers represents about 4,000 Verizon workers in the Tampa Bay area.

About 75 people picketed Verizon's downtown location at 610 Zack St., and several hundred people picketed other Verizon locations, said Doug Sellars, business manager of IBEW Local 824.

The protest ended at 8 a.m.

"So far there's been no response from the company to our first picket," Sellars said. "We will not be ignored; we will continue to stand up for customers who are getting bad service from this company until the company wakes up and realizes what they're doing."

This was the second protest in two weeks staged by the IBEW related to customer service. The first was held April 7.

Verizon executives have countered that they have received few complaints from customers.

1. No wonder
Callers don't have cell reception to make the complaint call.

2. I can attest to the poor customer service at Verizon, I worked there
And it was absolutely aporing; if people only knew what was going on there. There was no one on the floor there who could answer a queston; all the people with experience were in special cues that did not have to take support calls. You had to take a quota of maybe 75 calls a day (I don't recall the exact amount) but if a caller wanted to speak to a supervisor you had to stay on the supervisor cue to transfer the call which means you did not have time to make you quota of call. And the calls that wanted to speak to supervisors was a lot. And many calls wanted to write a letter to headquarters and once they got your name the would write a letter and dump all their dissatisfactions on you. And the once a week review of 3 of your calls was ridiculous. And the accounting system, forget about it.
