The Transport Workers Union says at least 30 baggage handlers have lost their jobs at the Gold Coast Airport.

The union's state secretary, Hughie Williams, says Qantas has contracted their work out to another firm.

Mr Williams says the future of another 20 baggage handlers at the airport is unclear.

"Some of those people may have worked there for 20-odd years," he said.

"At least 30 of our people will be losing their jobs and I am not sure as to what agreement the other 20 will be working under, but that's something we will be struggling with over the next few days."
