Clinton gets another Ohio superdelegate's nod

http://blog.dispatch.com/dailybriefing/2008/04/clinton_gets_another_ohio_supe.shtml

Put another Ohio superdelegate in the camp of Hillary Clinton: Rep. Betty Sutton, D-Barberton.

The Clinton campaign made the announcement this afternoon. The Sutton endorsement gives Clinton six Ohio-based superdelegates to four for rival Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.

Sutton said in a press release put out by the Clinton campaign that she believes Clinton and Obama are both "incredible candidates." But Sutton noted that a majority of Democratic primary voters in her 13th Congressional District voted for Clinton, adding that the New York senator "has demonstrated a keen understanding of the pressing issues, such as the need to create economic opportunity for working families right here in northeast Ohio."

Here is the current count of Ohio superdelegates, delegates chosen by dint of their elected office or other party position who are free to side with the candidate of their choice, who have committed to either Clinton or Obama, a senator from Illinois, so far.

For Clinton: Sutton; Gov. Ted Strickland; Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones of Cleveland; Ron Malone, AFSCME United Ohio director; Bill Burga, retired Ohio AFL-CIO president; and Patricia Moss, retired president of AFSCME Council 8.

For Obama: David Wilhelm, former Democratic National Committee chairman and Bill Clinton's 1992 campaign manager; Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory; Dayton Mayor Rhine McLin; and Sonny Nardi, secretary treasurer of Teamsters Local 416.

1. Well, Rep. Barberton is a dunderhead.
Of course, you'd expect something like that from me, an Obama supporter, but I just wanted to use the word "dunderhead", since I never have before.

6. of course... I'm the dunderhead for saying Rep. Barberton, rather than Rep. Sutton
but I suppose that kind stuff tends to happen after too many Yeunglings... :silly:

2. If Ohioans knew that Hillary lied about her support hor NAFTA
Before the primary, Obama just may have eked out a win in Ohio.

Sutton was firmly in Clintons' camp from the get-go. She's my rep, but just doesn't listen very well. Political lightweight.

3. Yesterdays news, but a good pickup for Clinton.
Betty Sutton is a very labor-friendly Dem. I'm an Obama supporter, but I congratulate Clinton for the Sutton endorsement.

4. yawn.....
this is old news, as is Billary, sorry to hear that Betty has to go the way of her district...guess Summit county ain't the hotbed of deep thinkers I thought they were. I don't blame her, but only wish the voters had been a little more forward thinking. Billary is more of the same old shit.

5. If her district went for Hillary then this is good.
I would hope all Super delegates vote with their district. Sort of reminds me of Democracy.

7. Then you had best hope for Stephanie Tubbs Jones to switch to Obama.
Tubbs Jones represents a very largely African American district (the 11th) and also the one with the largest number of delegates. Her district went for Obama in the primary. Yet she has remained steadfast in her support of Hillary.

Is that "Democracy"?
