Local (Nashville) Kroger union reaches tentative contract agreement

The union that represents employees at local and regional Kroger grocery stores has reached a tentative contract agreement with the company.

The agreement covers 9,000 union members at 92 Kroger stores in Middle Tennessee and parts of Kentucky and Alabama.

The contract will now be presented to members of United Food & Commercial Workers Union Local 1995, which has about 8,500 members in 94 states.

The agreement includes health care improvements for full-time and part-time workers; pension security and wage improvements.

Ratification will take place between June 28 and July 2.

Cincinnati-based Kroger is one of the nation's largest retail grocery chains.

With about 320,000 workers in 31 states, the chain is one of the largest in the nation.
