Why Union Construction? Safer, More Skilled, Better Wages & Benefits

http://www.laborradio.org/node/8838

By Doug Cunningham

Why go with union construction? In New York City, the Concrete Alliance – a business/labor union partnership – is answering that question in a public awareness campaign focused on the benefits to business and to workers when construction is done by union labor. Al Gerosa is president of the Concrete Alliance.

: ““They’re the experts, they can do the job well, efficiently, and you wind up with a quality job when you have a union man working on it. The person that is not affiliated with the union does not have the same training both in skill and also for safety.”

For construction workers, the 'why union' question can be added up in dollars and sense and benefits. Gerosa says besides higher wages, union construction also offers workers a much better deal for their families.

: “Health insurance, in some cases annuities, vacations, a union pension. And you take a pension and you couple that with Social Security and that family might well be able to retire in a position where he's comfortable."

1. This is why we should hire union.... If they will take good care of
there workers, and provide:Health insurance, in some cases annuities, vacations, a union pension. And you take a pension and you couple that with Social Security and that family might well be able to retire in a position where he's comfortable."
You can be sure they will have happy workers taking good care of the work they are doing.
