Economic Report: More Than Half Of U.S. Workers Plan To Skip Vacation

http://www.laborradio.org/node/8839

Economic Report:

Do you plan to take a vacation this year? A recent survey by The Workforce Institute discovered that 51 percent of American workers plan to skip out on their vacation plans. That is a six percent jump from last summer when 45 percent didn’t use their vacation time. Only 21 percent of workers have been denied time off because a co-worker beat them to it. And the primary issue found by the survey is the current economic downturn.

2. Vacation?
What is this word, "vacation"?

Nope, not this year - I'm working 50hrs/week for the next month, and grabbing that OT while the gettin's good!

6. Yes, I'm lucky in that respect....
but the reason I said that was not to "brag", but to answer to the vacation question. I should have said that I cannot afford to take a vacation - I'm working as much as I can in order to (just barely) keep up with the cost of living, like so many others are doing.

4. I went 13 years at my last job with no time off
First, because they wouldn't hire anyone with health problems like mine on staff, I had no paid days off. Second, I couldn't afford to take straight time without the night and weekend differential pay.

I think a lot of people are in the same boat, not being able to afford the loss of either shift differential or overtime pay, not having paid time off, being afraid to take paid time off because downsizing is a constant threat.

This country sucks for the people who live and work in it.
