Cientos de personas respondieron con donaciones monetarias para financiar la peregrinación organizada por la UFW en honor de María Isabel y los 10 trabajadores agricultores que han muerto debido al calor durante los últimos 4 años en California. Casi 3,000 personas han enviado notas emotivas y personales dirigidos la familia de María, que a la vez hemos compartido con su madre y con el resto de su familia.

Hasta la fecha ninguna de las compañías implicadas han tenido la decencia de dar condolencias a la familia de María--ni el contratista, ni la compañía que posee el campo donde María trabajó y ni el distribuidor del vino. Ni una carta, ni siquiera se presentaron a la misa dedicada a Maria--nada. La única reacción que tuvieron fue de intentar de echarle la culpa de la muerte de María a su prometido, Florentino.

Queremos hacerle saber a la familia de María que hay gente norteamericana que le importa esta tragedia-que la gente de todas clases sociales y de diferentes razas reconocen el valor de la vida y de la muerte de María. Dile a esta familia que compartes el dolor de la muerte y dales una promesa que harás lo que puedas para que así otras familias campesinas no tengan que aguantar la misma agonía.
