Talks were broken off between the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 770 and Albertson’s Supermarkets on Tuesday after the union said the company was planning to further “punish” employees by demanding more sacrifice from workers on top of record profits. The sacrifices included a reduction in employer contributions to health care benefits. The union has decided to return to the table to see if the company has changed its mind. 65,000 workers at 785 stores in southern California have been under contract that expired in March as negotiations continue.
