UFCW Resumes Grocery Worker Contract Talks In Southern California - 05/11/07

After breaking off talks on Tuesday, the union representing thousands of workers at supermarkets in southern California has returned to the bargaining table. Jesse Russell has more:

By Jesse Russell

Talks were broken off between the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 770 and Albertson’s Supermarkets on Tuesday after the union said the company was planning to further “punish” employees by demanding more sacrifice from workers on top of record profits. The sacrifices included a reduction in employer contributions to health care benefits. The union has decided to return to the table to see if the company has changed its mind. 65,000 workers at 785 stores in southern California have been under contract that expired in March as negotiations continue.
