If employers hired legally and... |
|
...if we had tougher employer sanctions for those who didn't then we would diminish illegal immigration, into the USA, exponentially at a far less cost then worthless border fencing and increased patrol force.
Instead the American people are dumbed down into thinking that if we just beef up border patrol and build a fence (both very expensive) then somehow those will solve it.
Well we have a fence and beefed up security but the draw to come here remains. That draw is 10 times the wages, and more, from a job that is ready for them once they get here.
Also, there is a Catch 22 in beefing up border patrolling and fences. And that is, in the "old days" a worker migrated back and forth with the work season leaving his family in Mexico. The border was more porous and easier to cross back in the pre-1990's. Nowadays that is way too risky so the worker cannot afford the risk of being caught with multiple crossings. He now brings his entire family with him to start a new life in the USA and thus the taxing affect on our wages, schools, and social services.
The Catch 22 regarding the fence is that it cuts off migratory animal routes and has a very negative impact on the environment while doing nothing in curtailing illegal immigration.
I am not advocating open borders at all. I am just giving a perspective that I think does not get out much.
With getting tough on employers, including the "happy homeowner" who picks up workers at Home Depot for instance, the immigration issue would diminish.
We need a better method of verification than is currently at the Social Security Department. We need to remind our neighbors that if they hire then they are contributing to illegal immigration. We need employer sanction laws that have teeth.
