HARRISBURG, Pa., Oct 30, 2008 /PRNewswire-USNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Largest Mobilization in Union Movement's History Shifts Into Overdrive for Final Four Days

Pennsylvania AFL-CIO President William George: "We're Turning Around America"
The Pennsylvania AFL-CIO and its affiliated unions and organizations is unleashing an unprecedented "Final Four" Get-Out-The-Vote (GOTV) effort in the final four days of the election. The ambitious program is part of a nationwide union effort to reach more than 13 million union voters in 21 presidential battleground states in a historic drive to change America's direction, the state affiliate announced today.

Beginning Saturday, 30,000 Pennsylvania AFL-CIO volunteers will visit more than 200,000 union households, make 320,000 phone calls and distribute more than 750,000 leaflets at worksites through Election Day urging union voters to get to the polls in support of working family candidates on November 4th.

"Our efforts are peaking at the right moment after months of tireless, focused work by nearly 25,000 union volunteers who are leading the fight in this Commonwealth to turn around America," said Pennsylvania AFL-CIO President William George. "Pennsylvania is ground zero in the battle for the White House and our volunteers are poised to launch an Election Day assault unlike any that has come before," George said.

The GOTV blitz is the final phase of a mobilization in Pennsylvania that has deployed an army of union volunteers who have made the following accomplishments going into these final four days:

-- Over 5,800 Union volunteers have made more than one million phone calls
to union members and their families.

-- Working America Canvassers have knocked on 5,000 doors a day in
Pennsylvania, and by October 31, 2008 will have knocked on over 200,000
doors.

-- 3.5 million union fliers have been distributed to over 510 Pennsylvania
work sites and over 600,000 doors knocked on since August, 2008.

-- In 2008 our goal is to be 35 percent of the total statewide vote in
Pennsylvania. In 2000 the percentage of union voter was 32 percent and
in 2004 it was 29.7 percent.

-- On average 800 union volunteers have walked every week since Labor Day.
On Saturday, October 25, 2008 over 2,100 union volunteers knocked on
union doors. We expect at least 3,000 walkers on Saturday, November 1st
and over 10,000 walkers on Election Day.
