Bonior Says He’s Not Interested in Being Labor Secretary

Jonathan Weisman reports on the White House transition.

In the speculative world that is post-election Washington, former Rep. David Bonior’s name is at the top of everybody’s list of potential labor secretaries.

Bonior wants you to know he’s not interested.

In an interview, the former Michigan congressman, who now advises President-elect Barack Obama on Detroit’s ills when he’s not teaching labor law, said he’s done with government. He said he’s flattered that his name keeps popping up, but in no way does he want to serve as labor secretary.

Bonior, who retired from Congress six years ago and made an unsuccessful run for Michigan governor, managed former Sen. John Edwards’s 2008 presidential campaign.
