http://www.laborradio.org/node/9872A contract dispute could imperil emergency medical transport services for Las Vegas. Jesse Russell reports:
If a contract dispute between Clark County and Las Vegas paramedics and American Medical Response can not be resolved by November 28 then a walk out could be in the works. If that happens the tourist destination could find itself with severely impact emergency transport time and a lack of staffing. AMR provides roughly 60 percent of all emergency transports in the region and the contract between the two sides expired on October 31. The issue revolves around who should be representing the paramedics and technicians in talks. The Service Employees International Union Local 1107 asked its affiliate the International Association of EMTs and Paramedics to handle the contract negotiations, but AMR said in a statement that under the National Labor Relations Act it is not allowed to bargain with an affiliate that is not certified to bargain on behalf of the union. AMR is bringing the question to the National Labor Relations Board.
