HARRISBURG, Pa., Nov 13, 2008 /PRNewswire-USNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Pennsylvania AFL-CIO President William M. George expressed the sympathies and condolences of Organized Labor to the family of Lt. Governor Catherine Baker Knoll who throughout her public service was a close friend and supporter of working men and women.

"With the passing of Lt. Governor Catherine Baker Knoll Pennsylvania's workers have lost a strong ally and true friend who throughout her life worked tirelessly to improve the living standards and quality of life for Pennsylvania's working families," George said.

"Catherine Baker Knoll believed, as we do, that Pennsylvania's working families are the foundation for a strong economy. She was a pioneer in promoting investments in jobs and educational opportunities for Pennsylvania working families. She was also a leader in the advancement of issues and policies that promote the well being of all workers including: family and medical leave; equal pay for equal work and comparable work; and many other issues that improved the lives of working people."

"Lt. Governor Catherine Baker Knoll's leadership and accomplishments will continue to serve the working families of Pennsylvania for years to come. We are saddened by her passing but will not forget her leadership and contributions to the working families of Pennsylvania," George said.
