Metamora firm fined $56,000 by OSHA

Inspectors at the Toledo office of the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration have fined a commercial construction firm from Metamora $56,000 for alleged violations of federal safety laws.

Anderzack Pitzen Construction Inc. did not adequately protect employees involved in a storm sewer construction project in Archbold, OSHA said in issuing the citation for a violation categorized as “willful,” the most serious level. The citation involved several incidents in May and June that occurred while employees were working in a trench, inspectors said.

The company will appeal the OSHA citation, said manager Pam Pitzen. An internal investigation is under way.
