Union to vote on proposal

Striking Pantex guards will vote Tuesday on the latest contract proposal issued by BWXT Pantex.

The 537-member guards union began picketing the nuclear-weapons plant northeast of Amarillo on April 16 after rejecting BWXT Pantex's first five-year contract offer.

A contingency security force is now protecting the plant.

Pantex Guards Union President Frank White said that union leadership observed some movement on key issues like health insurance, wages, seniority and overtime but that he wished to discuss details with union members before releasing specifics.

"There was enough movement there that we felt like we needed to take it to the membership to decide," he said.
