Aberdeen company ordered to fix safety violations

An Aberdeen company has been fined more than $6,000 and given a timeline for improvement after the Occupational Safety and Health Administration observed safety violations during a recent inspection.

Bruce Beelman, the area director for OSHA, said the violations were uncovered at a Dec. 2 inspection at the Molded Fiber Glass plant in Aberdeen. Beelman said he couldn't comment on what led to the inspection; however, he said OSHA usually does inspections when it gets a signed complaint by a current employee. OSHA is a governmental agency that investigates on-the-job injuries, deaths and safety hazards.

Molded Fiber Glass should have received notification of the citation Thursday, Beelman said.

"They do have a written safety and health program, but they did have things pointed out that needed to be addressed," he said.
