Minnesota Teamsters Endorse Al Franken

http://www.earthtimes.org/articles/show/news_press_release,131806.shtml

WASHINGTON, June 29 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Teamsters Joint Council 32 and Teamsters Local 120 PAC today announced their endorsements of Al Franken for the U.S. Senate in Minnesota. The endorsements follow Senator Norm Coleman's recent opposition to the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) and his continued failure to represent the interests of Minnesota's working families.

"Al Franken is Minnesota's candidate for working families," said Dan Fortier, President of Joint Council 32. "Norm Coleman has repeatedly abandoned Minnesota working families. We need a Senator who will fight for better jobs - - and Al Franken is the man for the job."

The endorsements come more than 16 months before the 2008 election and signify the importance the Teamsters Union places on electing Franken to the Senate. In addition to EFCA, Coleman has failed Minnesota workers in votes on numerous other issues, including:

-- Support for unfair trade agreements like CAFTA that send good jobs overseas; -- Opposition to legislation that would protect workers' severance pay during corporate bankruptcy; and -- Support for changes in overtime legislation that would substitute an 80-hour week for the current 40-hour week before overtime kicks in.
