A Wellborn man was arrested Thursday for stealing more than $39,000 from a local union, according to Suwannee County Sheriff's reports.

John Logan McCall, 51, of 2967 NW Noegel Road stole $39,689.30 between Feb. 26, 2005 and Feb. 26, 2009 from the Communication Workers of America, Local 3174, while employed as secretary/treasurer, reports allege.

Reports indicate McCall made 199 unauthorized transactions “for personal gain” on a union account at First Federal Bank of Florida. Of the 199 transactions, 181 involved McCall’s forging the signature of the president of the local union, reports show. McCall allegedly passed the checks at various locations.

McCall is also alleged to have made five cash withdrawals from the union's savings account at Suwannee River Federal Credit Union for personal gain.

McCall was booked into the Suwannee County Jail on grand theft II charges. He has since been released.

Local 3174 is based in Live Oak (Fl).
