With health care reform bills moving in the House and Senate, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) launched a significant television advertising campaign that asks California Senator Diane Feinstein to support legislation that will lower costs, expand coverage, and keep the insurance companies honest. The ads support legislation that would allow people to keep the insurance they have now or choose from a range of plans, including a new public health insurance option.

The ad, titled “What If,” is running for four days starting Monday, July 20, in the Bay Area. The ad shows that President Obama’s health care plan will get rid of exorbitant corporate profits, bloated CEO compensation, endless denials, and skyrocketing costs while giving voters more choice and making private insurance companies behave better.

“We’re asking Senator Feinstein to support the President’s plan to cover everyone,” said AFSCME President Gerald W. McEntee. “Congress must act now, health care reform cannot wait. California families can’t wait. This is the moment to end the despair of millions of Americans who are unable to access the affordable health care they need.”

AFSCME’s 1.6 million members provide the vital services that make America happen. With members in hundreds of different occupations – from nurses to corrections officers, child care providers to sanitation workers – AFSCME advocates for fairness in the workplace, excellence in public services and prosperity and opportunity for all working families.
