"PACE Coalition" - disgusting anti-worker group!
so i was listening to some old Tyrannosaurus Rex on Rhapsody tonight. there's a big ad on the site that says "WARNING - Reduced US competitiveness could cause fewer US jobs".

it's for an anti-worker group called "PACE Coalition". coalition of the US Chamber Of Commerce, aka Anti US Workers, more like it.

here's their message, with their suggested astroturf email to Congress.

Tell Congress Raising Taxes on American Businesses will Weaken the Country

Times are tough. The unemployment rate is rising rapidly. Our country is mired in a deep worldwide recession. Now Congress is considering raising taxes on American companies with overseas operations, which will lead to higher costs for American consumers and fewer U.S. jobs, and will jeopardize American competitiveness.

Raising taxes now will only hurt our chances of economic recovery by weakening our competitive edge and costing us badly needed jobs. We need tax reform that encourages America’s global competitiveness and fosters new job creation, not one that punishes law-abiding companies, threatens badly needed jobs, and leaves cs with higher prices to pay.

Below is a letter that you can send to Congress to help communicate your support of American jobs, businesses, and our economy.

Your letter:
I am writing to urge you to oppose a $200 billion tax increase on U.S.-owned businesses with operations overseas. The U.S. tax code---including such policies as deferral and "check-the-box"---currently allows American businesses to successfully compete on a global scale with foreign-owned businesses. Burdening worldwide American companies with these additional taxes will place our workers, businesses, and economy at risk.

These tax increases unfairly target law-abiding American companies and give foreign companies---especially those in China, India, and Europe---a significant advantage in the global marketplace. American companies with overseas operations must be able to compete with foreign companies on a level playing field.

Currently, American businesses with overseas operations add $2.5 trillion to our economy, supporting more than 20 million high-paying, high-quality American jobs. By diminishing American competitiveness, the federal government's proposed tax increase would threaten American jobs, innovation, and tax revenue. To make matters worse, these proposed changes would go into effect in 2011, just when analysts expect the economy to rebound, threatening American economic recovery and costing the country much-needed jobs.

Furthermore, increasing taxes on U.S.-owned businesses during a time of economic hardship would be disastrous for American consumers, who will see the impact in the form of increased prices on goods and services. Weakening consumer confidence further is certainly not the way to revive our economy.

To bring about the kind of change we need to bolster our economy, we must hold responsible those who break the law or evade taxes illegally. But we should not punish law-abiding companies for trying to stay competitive in an increasingly global market. If we do so, we will likely soon see these American companies move their entire operations overseas, which would rob the U.S. of much-needed jobs and severely damage our economy.

Once more, I strongly urge you to oppose these tax increases and take a stand for American workers, jobs, businesses, and our economy. Let's focus on comprehensive tax reform that will help keep America competitive, support economic growth, and create new jobs. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Your name and address will be added automatically to the signature line so that the targeted legislator can reply to your correspondence.
