Officer continues fight for job

Chris Parent said he was flabbergasted Monday when he was sent home on his first day back on the job as a Bellevue police officer.

Parent, 53, was reinstated last Wednesday after 20 months of legal battles with the City of Bellevue that began when he was fired for not being physically fit.

He said in an interview Tuesday that he was handed a letter and told to go home after he arrived Monday for his first day back at work.

Parent said the letter was to inform him that he was on paid leave, pending a medical evaluation.

“I was completely flat-footed,” he said. “I was ready to go back to work.”

Michael Polk, an attorney representing the city, said Parent is a city employee. Like all sworn officers, Parent is required to pass a state qualification gun test before he can act in the official capacity of an officer.

2. I am so hoping they can find a reason to force his retirement.
He won his case because Bellevue had been sloppy in writing the physical condition requirements for officers. Since the termination, Bellevue and the Police Union have renegotiated the language. They is no way Chris Parent is fit for duty but with his many years of service, he deserves better than termination.

3. Nope. He HAS to lose weight.
That is simply a walking heart attack, and I wouldn't want to see a cop THAT fat.

(And before anyone jumps on my ass, I'm overweight myself, but not Rush Limbaugh fat.)

4. He's in no way shape or form
fit to be a police officer. Maybe a receptionist at the front desk, but certainly not on patrols or working with the public on the streets. For his sake, both health and career, I pray he loses the weight and gets himself in shape.

6. A better use of his time
Too bad he didn't get a gastric band or some stomach staples during those 20 months.
